From a cultural standpoint, Star Wars arguably overshadows any other franchise. Everyone knows who Darth Vader is. Everyone knows what a lightsaber is.
From a writing standpoint, Dune is better since that’s what inspired Lucas to make Star Wars in the first place. Frank Herbert wrote something truly unique. Without Dune Star Wars doesn’t exist. However, you can’t deny more people know about Star Wars than Dune.
