Talking of the bad experience of ANI editor Smitha Prakash, I understand her angst. However, I would not publicly bring down an entire institution for her experience. Last year, I was called as a guest by one of the best private universities in India. I had to travel to a different city too. They called a couple of other Entreprenuers too. On arrival, no one received and I had to call up the coordinator. The event was delayed and a couple of students were made to engage me. I addressed them for about 30 minutes and moved on. The next day, they had a LinkedIn post thanking me and two other guest speakers. On that post, a guest speaker commented “Disappointed….They are making false promises regarding my session that never happened. Poor coordination, mismanagement, and unprofessional treatment. A reputed institution should do better”. I was angry too. But didn’t feel like naming and shaming the institution. They have so many events in their calendar that a few become check boxes for them. I think @smitaprakash was invited for one such ‘check box event’!

@sanjukta Whether you agree or disagree with her, respectful language would be nice to use. She was a guest and MH should have shown due respect by being punctual and ensuring participation. Aren't we all about 'Atithi devo bhava'?

Smita Prakash is so dumb and insecure that she thought it's a good idea to make a video of her own humiliation and circulate it widely. Any intelligent person would have just quietly left the venue without outrage and sanctimonious lectures to the organizer. This is what happens when people are too dumb to realise when not to get carried away by your ego. (context: Smita was invited to some event as a chief guest but nobody turned up including the organisers. So she made a video of the empty halls and chairs complaining about the whole thing. She should have known that making noise about it will only make her a butt of jokes)

I don't think any woman, in any era, would've been comfortable with it. Consent wouldn't even have been thought of back then.

This is called Dudh Pilai ritual. In some Rajasthani weddings like in Bishnoi families, just before the groom leaves with the baraat, his mother covers him with her pallu. She brings his face close to her chest and he mimics drinking milk for a few seconds. It is not real breastfeeding. It is a symbolic act. It means the end of his childhood days. The mother is giving her last blessing and reminding him of "maa ke doodh ka karz", never forget the love and sacrifices she made while raising him.

@shekharkapur Masoom remains evergreen. Perfect cast and direction with iconic music. If I'm not mistaken, 'Huzoor is kadar' was only the second song filmed on a middle-aged couple. First was, 'Ae meri zohra jabeen' from Waqt.

Throw back pic from my first film, Masoom. On the first day of release, I went to the main theatre … and there were only two people in the whole cinema hall.. and one of them was me ! Those days ‘black marketing’ of cinema tickets was really prelavent .. young men, or even gangs, would bulk by cinema tickets and then sell them at higher prices on the day of the show.. of course if the hall was full .. Except the first show on the first day for Masoom, the hall was completely empty ! Outside I got surrounded by some pretty angry looking young boys when they discovered I was the director .. they had lost their money that day .. I must have looked pretty crestfallen. So one of them actually took pity on me, and said .. ‘Sir .. the problem is you’ve made an ‘article’ film’ .. if you want a career , don’t do that ‘ Article film ?? I kept wondering .. article film .. I realized he meant an ‘artistic film’ .. Don’t ever make an artistic film this young black marketeer was trying to warn me .. Well, the Friday of release .. all the cinema halls were empty .. as they were on Saturday, Sunday , Monday , Tuesday .. The Distributors of the film gave up trying to support the film. It was too expensive to keep the film showing to empty halls .. I remember the feeling that day .. when they told me they had decided to give up trying to hold the theatres .. I walked the streets of Mumbai and thought about what I was going to do next in my life , for making films was certainly no longer an option. Something strange happened on Thursday. A friend called me and asked if I could help him get tickets to Masoom. I told him that was a bad joke. But then .. On Thursday one cinema hall had filled up .. then on Friday there were lines of people waiting to buy tickets .. and over the weekend the distributors were scrambling to get back the halls they had given up, and my ‘Article’ film was declared a hit .. What happened that weekend ? People say in retrospect it was ‘Word of mouth’ .. but how could it be, when hardly anyone saw the film ? What happened that Thursday ? .. I still wonder as am about to go into making ‘Masoom, the next generation’ .. years after Masoom the original became a cult film ..
