In a September 2022 interview on Fox/WSJ editorial page, Kevin Hassett was asked about Democratic attacks that Powell was going to cause a recession by being too focused on inflation. "To attack Jay Powell, it's just a negative for the economy and a negative for markets. The independence of the Fed is super important. I think that President Trump started to realize that after a while." Hassett said that to avoid the catastrophe of the 1970s, a recession was likely and what the Fed needed to do was "keep the high rates through that recession." wsj.com/video/series/j…
