Last night I attended Mayor McCraight’s State of the City address in Romulus. We heard about the great work that’s been happening to improve the roads, neighborhoods, schools, and public safety. I’m so proud of all that the city has accomplished.

This is not about disqualifying good candidates for office, it’s about transparency and ensuring that voters have information readily available to them before making their choice for who they want to represent them.

These bills ensure that voters have access to critical information regarding the criminal history of their local officials so they’re able to make informed votes.

Today, I introduced legislation that would require candidates and sitting officials for county offices to disclose felony convictions to strengthen transparency and public trust in local government.

Residents deserve a voice that influences decisions impacting their air, water, and quality of life instead of being a bureaucratic checkbox.

This ensures that community concerns are part of the official record and that permitting decisions are made based on both technical evidence and public input.

This month, I introduced legislation to require EGLE to meaningfully review and respond to public comments before approving permits for projects that may impact public health, safety, or the environment.

This afternoon, I attended the Planet Party hosted by the Sierra Club in Ann Arbor. I spoke about some of the bills I’ve introduced to regulate the out-of-control data center development in Michigan. We have to be good stewards of our environment for generations to come.

Today, my team and I, along with State Rep @JimmieWilsonJr1, had the honor of touring Ozone House in Ypsilanti. Ozone House does great work in the community to help at-risk youth with transitional housing services, life skills, and crisis intervention.

Today, we had the pleasure of touring the Forgotten Harvest facility. Forgotten Harvest rescued over 42 million pounds of food last year for distribution in our communities. Reducing food insecurity is a top priority of mine, and we’re so grateful for organizations like this one.

There’s nothing better than spending time with students in our community, and moments like these remind me why this work matters.

Today, I continued one of my favorite traditions, which is celebrating "March is Reading Month" by reading "The Wild Robot" with 120 4th graders at Symons Elementary in Milan. It’s always a highlight to see their excitement for reading.

On Wednesday, I had the chance to join a group of scouts in Belleville, where we talked about how a bill becomes a law. They asked very thoughtful questions and even worked together to create their own “laws,” which was my favorite part.
