As an Iranian-American watching anti-Trump protests across my city and across the country, I can’t help but think this has crossed into absurdity and self-victimization. At a certain point, it stops helping anyone. It starts to feel like protesting for the sake of protesting. Protest all you want—that’s your right as an American. But for God’s sake, stop calling Trump a fascist dictator and stop lumping everything into one catch-all cause.

I don’t expect anyone to understand what it’s like to be Jewish anywhere right now. It’s clear that self-reflection departed the building a long time ago. What I expect is for everyone to stop dragging us into your bullshit. Whatever group you’re a part of. Whether it’s the Greens in the UK, or pop star / actor fandoms, or the LGBTQ+ ever angrier community, or the local gym…. Jews are not the problem. Shouting “Free Palestine” or “Zionism is racism” all day is not going to solve your problems or fix whatever the fuck it is that you perceive to be broken. Banishing Jews from your social circles, from your societies, from your advocacy rings, from your club nights, from your public spaces, from your private lives is not going to make anything better. In fact it makes everything worse. Because Jews are the fucking best. All of you can get fucked. You don’t know what it’s like, fine. But leave us alone. Stop obsessing over us. It’s enough. It’s psychotic. Focus on the mess you made all by yourself. You’re like a fucking toxic ex boyfriend who can’t get over the girl you mistreated. Losers.
