This vid is doing the rounds again. Around 5 years ago I set up a 24/7 self service staff-less butchery - it's still running. We have hundreds of members who pop in and do their thing, one less job for me!

A kid walks into a store & buys a sack full junk food: nobody cares. A tax paying farmer tries to sell raw butter & milk to his neighbor: a mob of Karens, bureaucrats & lawyers is ready to crucify him. This is absolute proof of a broken system. Take it from @JoelSalatin

Its a Wrap at the REXi12 at Polyface Farm On Friday night we completed what was a fun and learning-filled 4 days at the incredible Polyface Farm in Swoope, Virginia (USA). 29 people from across the USA (and 1 from Ontario) joined the current cohort of over a dozen Polyface stewards and apprentices as we scaled all things farm planning from breakfast to dinner. It was such an exceptional opportunity to traverse one of Polyface's newest lease farms and see first-hand how they were able to double that farm's beef carrying capacity in the first year and do so using a $150/acre makeover of water lines, fencing and management. And of course to also see the 64 years of development at Polyface Farm itself, with Joel and Daniel Salatin joining us to reveal so many details on both farm's planning as well as all of the financials etc. We all enjoyed cooked breakfasts, lunches and dinners on the farm, thanks to Melissa Barth—complete with Joel's famous blessings, all of the fellowship between around 50 people at each setting and nourishment that Polyface is renowned for. Thanks to all for their curiosity, enthusiasm and work and we look forward to continuing to ride along on the journeys of all of the wonderful folks who were able to join us. Massive thanks also to the Salatin family and the entire Polyface Farm team—especially Joel & Daniel, but also to Missy, Wendy, Erik and Melissa. True professionals at what is still the benchmark agricultural operation in the world. We look forward to doing it all again. Silviculture - Farm Forestry Plantings Progress 24 years on @Regrarians Darren J. Doherty designed these plantings at Nulla Vale in central Victoria in 2001. And this is his first decent walk through them since they were established. This particular section of the holding has plantings of Corymbia maculata (spotted gum), Eucalyptus globulus (blue gum) and Eucalyptus saligna (sydney blue gum). Planned Grazing - McIvor Farm Foods - 7 August 2025 Flyover Today I met with Belinda & Jason Hagan at their farm in what is our 15th year of working together. It's been a comparatively dry winter and there is a very stark difference between their operation and those adjacent and across the district. While the top dam has always been a challenge, the lower two dams we built are filling well from their 1:200 (0.5%) gradient catchment roads. The pasture growth was a highlight. With such a late start in what is effectively a green drought, all of the work in developing the mineral and biological fertility over the years definitely pays off in these years of below average rainfall. While many pastures in the district lack vigour, have a lot of annuals and are only 2-3" high—McIvor's were 8-12", diverse, thriving and perennial. Look out for some videos I took on the ground as I checked out some of this world leading operation. Also for some opportunities that are coming down the line. PS. We stopped doing invoices years ago—going home with a big bag of their goodies and a lovely pea and hock soup is where we hope most of these jobs get to. ~ McIvorFarmFoods.com.au

Dam Structures - 6ML Ridge Dam & Water Conservation Channels after 25 years In May of 2025 I visited a site we designed and developed back in 2000-2001 for Michael Wright on his Nulla Vale farm. Michael is quite well known in farm forestry and Landcare circles for the innovative mix of timber plantings we assembled back in the day—however for me I was particularly interested in how this 6 million litre (1.58 million US Gallons) ridge dam was performing in this quite dry year.
