I think it becomes clearer that Taiwan doesnt need to win, it just needs to make China invading, insanely expensive. This sort of the advantage of drone warfare. So while I think it exposes how fragile the U.S. military actually is, it simultaneously grants Taiwan an out. What it eats what in terms of overall advantage? 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Ive tried eating slow, I don't "savor" the food, the food ends up tasting worse to me, and It takes longer for it to go down my throat which also feels good when eating fast. You're assuming eating fast =/= not savoring the food. I assure you for fast eaters, eating fast is what makes it most enjoyable

@ColoradoWino People who eat that way fascinate me. Like, you don’t even want to savor your food? What’s the difference between you getting something healthy you don’t enjoy as much but that’s better for you and downing it that way vs something like that and doing the same?

I mean, an unpopular war is unpopular, and an unpopular administration is unpopular. Its not going to become more popular and sustainable by labeling the larger side as traitors. But hey im all for it, that will probably just lead to the GOP getting blown out in midterms even more. I see no downsides to any of this

My reading is that all sides are pot committed to greater or less degrees. * The Gulf Arab states' status as secure cosmopolitan hubs is now under threat. Arguably, they need to solve the Iranian issue more than anyone else, because people are now going to be much warier about parking their assets there. They can trivially endure a few months of drone strikes (a few civilians die, who cares) and collapsed oil exports (huge forex reserves), but the long-term reputational fallout from the survival of a hostile Iranian regime is going to be far, far bigger. * Israel has a great opportunity to dismantle as much Iranian war-making potential as it can (including oil and gas infrastructure). Regime change would be nice, but is not actually necessary. * Iran needs to inflict real economic pain because otherwise US and Israel will have whacked their top leaders with impunity and nothing would then stop them from just rinse and repeating every year. They will very likely lose this war but they might well believe otherwise (perception that Gulf Arabs are soft and that US will run out of interceptors). Even if they're more pessimistic, they have no cause to believe they will do better in the next war. US is least invested in the war continuing, and seems to be more a question of the weight the deep state and Trump specifically puts on various issues, such as: the GOP's outlook in the midterms; war as a cover for authoritarian consolidation; high oil prices hurting EU and East Asia more than the oil self-sufficient and more services-focused US; the (false) perception that killing Iran critically weakens China; incentivizing expansion of weapons production and live "training" for the Taiwan War; the corruption element of Trump's commitment to Israel (Jewish lobby/donors) and the Gulf states (open bribery). I think the US can likely win the war within the next few months, so I would continue it in Trump's shoes. Republicans are on board with the war, those Americans who are not can be painted as pro-Iranian traitors as well as those Americans who oppose efforts to "secure" elections from Iranian interference. This is not an endorsement but this is how I would behave in Trump's shoes, I know I am getting old so if I want to experience what it is like to be a dictator and/or glorious warlord for my own entertainment I don't have that many more opportunities left.
Philippe Lemoine@phl43

My reading of the situation is that the Iranians have memed themselves into believing they would eventually force the Israelis and Americans to beg for mercy due to a lack of interceptors, while the Americans have memed themselves into believing they could remove ~15-20% of the supply of oil, gas and various other products derived from them without causing a global economic meltdown at some point. I still think that the most likely outcome is that both sides will eventually wake up from their dream as reality hit them in the face and agree to return to something like the status quo ante which both sides will sell as a victory. The Iranians will get tired of being mercilessly pounded and realize that the Israelis aren't going to stop just because they can occasionally hit Tel Aviv with a missile, while eventually the economic consequences of the conflict will become clear and the pressure on Trump from voters pissed off by the price of gas, businessmen losing their customers, the Pentagon watching its supplies dwindle with no end in sight and allies whose economy is being raped will become unbearable, at which point Trump will seek to end the war, the Iranians will hopefully have been sufficiently pummeled to agree and Israel will have to do what Trump says.

Further I think something Westerners seem to miss is that they always strong man the argument for some obscure game that like maybe a few thousand Americans want to play. The vast majority of piracy is not that, its to pirate games like fucking Mario 64 or Pokémon Black. Games that sold millions of copies that one can obtain legally, they just dont want to pay a few dollars because "I want free shit" is the most basic human want.

The difference is that "illegally copying a media" is whats defined as stealing it. If go into another country and briefly "borrow the water" to clean my car then put it back in the lake or whatever, do you think the country wouldnt define that as theft? Theft is defined relative to what violates the parameters of control over "property", and property is defined by whatever is convenient for a society to deem within an entities' control

@Skywolfhound @RhockoHarrison "You cant own ideas! Thats absurd retard!" Yes you can, we define what property is. "Property" as a concept does not exist in nature. Never did. It gets purely social defined based off whats convenient, as does theft.

@Regret_Bucket @RhockoHarrison There’s nothing wrong with wanting free shit if that “shit” is being withheld from you for no good reason. If water was free in one country but not the next, you can’t blame the people for trying to get access to that free water.

@Skywolfhound @RhockoHarrison Piracy is in fact theft, I know this concept of owning an idea is very hard for you if you're hellbent on "wanting free shit", but the rest of the world has moved on.

One of the many problems with this post: - it assumes the election apparatus is one monolithic machine that can be rigged at one point. - in reality, elections are administered over 9,000+ voting jurisdictions across 50 states. - voter turnout was consistently higher in jurisdictions throughout the country. - that means that any sort of theory of fraud based in increased voter turnout would have to account for how that was achieved across thousands of jurisdictions. - of course @Milajoy , nor anyone else, has ever presented such a theory. - and they choose to ignore the very simple explanations that, (a) COVID meant that lots of people were sitting in their homes with nothing better to do than vote by mail, and (b) we had a highly polarizing sitting president.

Just a small note: former presidents, until Obama, did not engage in active politics after office as he is now doing. The reason: once someone has been given centralized and unified control of government power as the head of the country and of all military, clandestine, and diplomatic powers, it is considered tyrannical to attempt to use that power once out of constitutional office, even by means of soft power influence over either those powers or the people in general. It was the custom, from Washington to George W. Bush, to avoid using the glamour of highest office over the people after having served in the office of presidency. So when people get angry about norms being violated, just remember: there are crude ways to violate norms, but there are also very gentile and silky ways to violate them as well.
Barack Obama@BarackObama

Free and fair elections are the cornerstone of our democracy. But right now, they’re under attack. Several Republican-controlled states have redrawn their congressional maps to give themselves an unfair advantage in the midterm elections. Now Virginia has a chance to help level the playing field. If you live in the Commonwealth, early voting begins March 6, and Election Day is on April 21. Vote YES.
