On our Sunset Drive on Wednesday, we also met a very handsome young male leopard that was said to have come over from the Timbavati area.
Lucan said he had not been named yet…
Filmed on July 29, 2026 while on a drive with @shimungwelodge and Lucan and Daniel. #wildearth

@Shreyas0111K THANK YOU 🙏🏻🐾🙏🏻Have I told you before that you are amazing, Shreyas?
We need to meet someday! Would love to go on a leopard safari with you!
English

@RegulaMaria This is the GwiGwi male. He's from the Thornybush area itself. Born in 2023 to Kukala.
English

@Shreyas0111K Kind of best shot I got of the skittish daughter… Thanks a lot for clarifying the whole thing! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

English

@RegulaMaria This is Sungula, but the shy cub should be very young then (< 3 months old).
So, from my understanding, you saw Sungula with a shy cub on Monday and yesterday evening, her older daughter(born Jan '25).
English

Sungula’s latest daughter, around 9 months old,is super skittish and loves to hide.
The first time when we saw her on Monday, we caught a couple of seconds glimpse before she was gone!
Yesterday evening, we were luckier.
This time she allowed us to admire her beauty. #wildearth
English

@Shreyas0111K This would make sense! I will send you the pics of the female they said was Sungula, who was very close to the cub.
English

@RegulaMaria Maybe the shy cub you saw was Ngwenza's cub? That cub was born in Aug '25
English

@Shreyas0111K Mmhhh…Now that you mention it… I remember this. The cub we saw her with was extremely shy! Let me re-check with Lucan… I may have made a mistake in my notes but I am confused now.
English

@RegulaMaria Surprised to hear you say she's skittish because she's been pretty relaxed when WildEarth saw her earlier this year.
She is about 18 m/o (Born Jan '25).

Meeting the 3Kings of Thornybush-the 3 big NorthernBlack DamMales
It was wonderful to see the 3 BDMs again this morning, after having met them in June 2023 for the first time. They have become such impressive kings not only in body size but also with their huge black manes. They have clearly taken over the area, ruling over several prides. #wildearth
English

@fm_henson No, he took over the Avoca pride and sired the 3 cubs I posted about earlier.
English

@RegulaMaria So the 4th brother isn’t with the Guernseys?? He’s been with them for a good while. He pretty much stayed with them. I figured they’d eventually take the Makeppies after the Makeppies/Giraffe male died.

Meeting the very shy Ngwendza leopardess in Thornybush Monday night during our first drive with @shimungwelodge and guide Lucan and tracker Daniel.
It was pure magic to meet this beautiful leopardess.

The 3 males here rule over the Monwana pride, a pride with 6 females and 2 cubs right now, as well as the Makeppsie and the Guernsey prides. There were only 5 of the lionesses, whom we had met on Monday evening, with the males, as one is with the cubs.
The smaller BDM, a brother of the same age as these 3 (there were 6 brothers) is ruling the Avoca pride now, a pride with 5 lionesses - among them the Princess, who is 3 now. The last remaining older lioness, the litter sister of late Dark Mane Avoca, vanished about 6 weeks ago. As I was told, age had caught up with her. She was the mother of the now 3-years old Princess.
Another BDM brother is on Sandringham with the Black Dam Pride.

Sad news from Amboselli. Officials are investigating the deaths of 15 elephants. The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) said 10 of the elephants showed signs of partial paralysis before dying within two days.#wildearth Thanks for sharing @SueSpurgin. x.com/SueSpurgin/sta…

Feeling blessed after 4! different Rhino Sightings (6 rhinos in total!) yesterday during our Sunset Drive with our guide Lucan and tracker Daniel with @shimungwelodge.
Why do people not understand that there is only one living creature who needs a Rhino Horn:a Rhino! #wildearth
English

This morning, our hearts got filled with joy and relief as our guide Lucan and tracker Daniel of @shimungwelodge found the 3 Avoca cubs, that hadn’t been seen for a week.
The situation with the 3BDMs and their smaller(same age)brother siring cubs with the Avocas is tense. All 3 cubs are males! #wildearth
English

Hoping to see them tomorrow…☺️ #wildearth

@fm_henson Thank you. We had never seen such tiny pups before.
English

@RegulaMaria Love wild dogs. Pups are so cute. I find it very interesting how they feed the pups when they are younger. Incredible sighting 💜💜
English

With around 300 to 500 Wild Dogs, aka Painted Dogs in the Greater Kruger area, we feel extremely blessed to have had 3 Wild Dog sightings on our trip so far.
We had an amazing sighting with Rodney close to Satara of a pack with pups.
Last weekend and on Monday, we had two more sightings in the Manyeleti with @tintswalo_safari.
Every moment spent with Wild Dogs is a special moment! #wildearth
English

@fm_henson Yes, we have been truly blessed even though it was tougher in general this year with the high grass.
English

@RegulaMaria Wow!! Incredible!! You’ve had amazing sightings 💜🦁🐆
English

What would be an appropriate title for this year’s safari with Rodney?
CHEETAH SAFARI
We had 5 cheetah sightings from July 18 til July 24,4 alone last Friday:
A mom with 4 cubs,a collared male by himself, another mom with 3 cubs and then another female.
With an estimated 6,500 cheetahs worldwide,1,000 in all of Southern Africa, around 200 in the Greater Kruger area, how lucky were we to see 11 during our 7 days together?
And our cheetah luck continued in the Manyeleti 2 days later…
