Because if a player were to notice that there should have been a whistle, they’d essentially be free to take an egregious penalty knowing it’s coming back. You can also take penalties after a whistle which are outside of normal play, so this is similar.

Had Hughes come to the first practice in Mtl and THEN “got hurt”, could he rejoin now? Or no because he missed game 1?

@elijahmckeown @walsha They actually would be by virtue of the players receiving a 50/50 split of HRR. They would likely just pay lower escrow commensurate with the HRR gains from the added 2 games.

@walsha Well the league would surely be upping players' salaries to 102.4% of their current deals if they upped the amount of games to 102.4% of what they agreed to play when they signed their contracts, right Allan??

@wyshynski I think the big rush is all because expansion fees aren’t currently included in HRR. It’s something the players could go after if the CBA is reopened. But if this all goes ahead under the existing CBA, the owners take the entire expansion fee.

@DownGoesBrown The NBA needs to eliminate or change the max % one player can earn and it will solve a good deal of this. Stars might take small pay cuts to play together. But if they could each be earning 50-60 mil elsewhere (and many are worth it), super teams will die.

@notaxation The worst part is the loser point. A game that goes to OT awards 50% more points. Ludicrous. It should be 3 Pts for regulation win and 0 for regulation loser; 2 points for OT/SO winner and 1 for OT/SO loser. All games should be of equal value: 3 points.
