From there the game is being run through a Switch emulator that is running on the switch itself. somehow there's so much overhead, that emulating a switch game inside of the switch is faster

@Samaira_twts Its more so we're forced to or stuck tolerating it rather than using it because we want to. Avg person will use what's available and in front of them, if they don't see it in stores physically, they won't have it. Linux based machines aren't readily available at retail on mass

@nyc_prophet I don't think you understand what "reverse engineering" means, if anything you probably mean regressive engineering. If it was reverse engineering that would imply soyny engineers are capable of designing the GPU on their own and have something at least on par with the 4080

PS6 matching a RTX 4080 ? But the Playstation stans on this app told me the PS5 PRO matches the RTX 4090 so is it reverse engineering?

@VisualFidelity i can beat it for less than a ps5 if i use the used market no problem, just grab and old x99 workstation or server, toss in a xeon 2687w V4 and an rtx 3070

Digital Foundry: I'm not sure a $900 gaming PC will get you PS5 Pro performance ...and lets not forget it wont be playing GTA 6 either

@dailyhubranx that's like 2 hours at max power draw, not everything you run on it will run at max power. heck if u got one of the adapters to connect a pair of XR display glasses to your switch or switch2 it will drain its battery in like 2 hours or so too, as it will enter docked on battery

$2000 for a 2 hour battery before it needs recharging. The world has gone MAD..mad I tell you!🤣 Whats next? 2036 Legion go 7 at $10 000? Besides Steam Deck, which was a great Effing value per performance back in the day when it came out, ughhh...everything that followed after in PC the handheld market felt like a scam. But $2000? @PlayerEssence @ROBBIErobn games haven't been coded to bare metal in decades now. ever since development teams and studios ballooned in sizes, moving to engines like unreal and unity, and so on they've been programing for various APIs rather than the hardware directly, that stuff died in the 2000s.

@ROBBIErobn I definitely do not, zero physical ownership and games built for PC and not actually coded to metal doesn't sit right with me. I guess I'm old tho, I come from the era of Game Boy and PSP 😅

@eStarland not only is the price higher, this gen but value proposition is also far worse. funnily enough the RTX 3070 was same price as ps5 at launch, its replacement today, the 5070 is also available for same price as ps5 today, but at least the 5070 is 40-80% performance improvement

@s1nicki the funny part is the steamdeck did that with 0 retail presence and extremely limited stock. only way to even buy a steamdeck is to order one from the steam store directly if not you bought one from what is effectively a scalper drop shipping it to you.

this is funny because the switch 2 sold 17m units in 9~ months while the original steam deck sold 4m in it’s lifetime. so i highly doubt a second steam deck will pull better numbers 😭😭😭

@LarmerWF @s1nicki yeah its rough, even buying storage is hard too, SSD prices are just.... and even HDD prices are bad too, funny enough modern high-end enterprise HDDs are almost as fast as Sata SSDs now which is crazy, too bad you can't even find those in stock either.

@ReinxVtuber @s1nicki it's going to have domino effect on everything. i was kinda shocked ps5's weren't sold out last year. $830 was for the pro was like a perfect flipper opportunity if you were willing to store them for 6 months.

Windows dominates Steam with 92.33% share, but Linux just crossed 5% in the latest Steam Hardware Survey, landing at 5.33% in March. That’s a big jump from 2.23% in February, but the trend isn’t exactly steady. It was 3.38% in January, 3.58% in December, and 3.20% in November, so this spike could be temporary rather than a clear shift. Linux remains far ahead of macOS. Linux is gaining attention, but it’s too early to call it a real challenge to Windows just yet.

@Hamphield @nixcraft honestly you'd be surprised what can be played on linux, outside of some muiltiplayer pvp games such as LoL, Valorant, Fortnite, Apex and such, pretty much almost every new game and tons of older ones run on Linux. If anything its more surprising if a game doesn't work now

@LarmerWF @s1nicki yeah i figured, things are rough, when this stuff was going down i managed to pick up one of the last few 5070 for $760 cad before taxes, crazy how back in 2023 there were bundle deals for a 7950x3d + 32gb ram + 1tb samsung ssd + b650 motherboard for $1000 cad, now the ram is....

@ReinxVtuber @s1nicki yeah it was a sale, but anyone who was paying attention knew it was going to be the last time to get a deal like that because of what ram prices were doing. i didn't even really want it until gta comes out.

@ReinxVtuber @s1nicki ps5 pro was $830 cad last year when all the ram prices were skyrocketing. i know this cuz i bought one in december knowing full well sony would jack the price up once their stockpile of memory ran out.
