A Moment She’ll Never Forget. A Legacy That Will Last Forever. Today, Reitz Memorial High School proudly celebrated something truly special… Senior Sydney Robinson was surprised and honored as the inaugural recipient of the Gorman Family Scholarship. Surrounded by her family and the Gorman family, Sydney experienced a moment that represents more than just an award — it represents growth, perseverance, and belief in what’s possible. The Gorman Family Scholarship was created to recognize students who show meaningful academic improvement and determination, inspired by the journey of Memorial alumnus Ric Gorman. This scholarship is about opportunity. It’s about motivation. It’s about seeing potential and choosing to invest in it. And today… that investment is in Sydney. 💙 From all of us at Memorial — congratulations, Sydney. Your story is just getting started. 📸 Swipe to see the surprise, the smiles, and a moment that will be part of Memorial history for years to come. #MoreAtMemorial #MemorialPride #ScholarshipMoment #ClassOf2026 #LegacyInTheMaking

Some lessons aren’t taught in a classroom. They’re learned in living rooms… at kitchen tables… in quiet conversations… and in the arms of someone who has loved you your whole life. Today at Memorial, we welcomed over 200 grandparents back to campus. We began the morning together in Mass inside the Robert M. Kent Athletic Center, then gathered in the cafeteria for conversation, laughter, and time that truly matters. And everywhere you looked— there were hugs. There were smiles. There were stories being shared across generations. At Memorial, one of our core values is Family. Today, that value wasn’t just something we talk about. It was something you could see… something you could feel… something you could be a part of. As President Reising shared this morning, grandparents are more than just family members. They are “wisdom keepers, prayer warriors, and the soft place to land.” Today, we celebrate them. Thank you to all of the grandparents who joined us and continue to shape the lives of our students in ways that will last far beyond these halls. Help us celebrate Grandparents Day: Tag a grandparent who has made a difference in your life Share your favorite memory with them below Or drop a ❤️ to say thank you

A few years ago, the future of Memorial Speech looked very different. When Coach Tony Fehrenbacher and Coach Beth Browning took over the program, they began rebuilding it piece by piece. Practice by practice. Round by round. Fast forward to this weekend at the Indiana State Speech Tournament, and the results speak loudly. Memorial had eight students advance to Quarterfinals, placing them among the Top 24 speakers in the entire state of Indiana. Quarterfinalists (Top 24 in Indiana): Anna Hogue – Duo Lillian Hogue – Duo Elizabeth Naas – Duo Bella Eberhard – Duo Chris Sermersheim – Impromptu Steven Lasher – Impromptu Luca Cirignano – International Extemporaneous Audrey Schenk – Informative From there, three Tigers continued their run and advanced to the State Semifinals — Top 12 in Indiana. Semifinalists (Top 12 in Indiana): Chris Sermersheim – United States Extemporaneous Reese Stahl – Broadcasting Matteo Cirignano – United States Extemporaneous What this team has built is more than competitive success. It’s a culture of preparation, confidence, and courage to stand up and speak. Memorial Speech continues to prove that the Tigers belong among the best programs in the state. Congratulations to our students and to Coaches Fehrenbacher and Browning for building something truly special. #MoreAtMemorial #MemorialSpeech #TigerPride

Today, we ask our Memorial family to come together in prayer and support for one of our own. Our student, Tristan O’Daniel, has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and is currently at Riley Hospital as he prepares to receive a bone marrow transplant once his numbers are where they need to be. This week, our Student Council presented Tristan’s family with a check raised through donations at school and during the basketball game. It was a powerful reminder of who we are at Memorial. When one of us faces a battle, we all step forward. We ask for your continued prayers for Tristan, his family, his medical team, and for strength and healing in the days ahead. If you would like to support Tristan’s fight, you can donate here: gofundme.com/f/r6hpz-suppor… Let’s surround Tristan with faith, hope, and the full strength of the Memorial community. 💙🙏

This past week, leadership from Reitz Memorial High School traveled to St. Edward’s University for the 2026 Holy Cross Convocation, joining Holy Cross schools from across the country in fellowship, formation, and forward vision. While there, President Josh Reising and Principal Aaron Schmitt had a special opportunity to reconnect with 1950 Memorial alumnus, Brother Ronald Hein, C.S.C. Br. Ron shared stories from his time in Evansville and at Memorial that carried the warmth of tradition and the steady heartbeat of Holy Cross. His love for Memorial remains as strong as ever, and it was truly a joy to listen as he reflected on the people and experiences that helped shape his journey. Thank you, Brother Ron, for your time, your wisdom, and the gift of your stories. They are part of the living legacy of Memorial. Stay tuned to this month’s Alumni E-News Alumni Spotlight to read more about Br. Ron and his remarkable journey. Not subscribed? Send us a message here and we’ll make sure you’re added to the list.

Today we enter the season of Lent together. On this Ash Wednesday, our Memorial family gathers to receive ashes and begin a 40-day journey of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Marked with the sign of the cross, we are reminded of who we are and whose we are. Lent invites us to slow down. To refocus. To return our hearts to what matters most. At Memorial, we are blessed to walk this journey as a faith community, rooted in Christ and guided by the traditions of the Brothers of Holy Cross. May this season be one of growth, reflection, and renewal for us all. “Repent, and believe in the Gospel.” ✝️ #AshWednesday #Lent2026 #MemorialFamily #HolyCrossTradition

🎉 Congratulations to junior Reagan Engbers on being accepted into the Spring 2026 BigFuture Ambassadors program! As a BigFuture Ambassador through the College Board, Reagan will help fellow students explore college and career options, discover planning tools, and find resources that make life after high school feel more clear and achievable. Student leadership shines brightest when it lights the path for others, and this is exactly that kind of moment. We are proud to see Reagan representing Reitz Memorial High School and supporting classmates as they plan what comes next. Way to lead from the front, Reagan! 🐯📘 @MyBigFuture

Recently, our Junior Theology classes took part in Teaching Masses, gaining a deeper understanding of the beauty and meaning behind the Liturgy. Students learned about priestly vestments, the significance of the Sign of Peace, and many other enlightening details about the Mass that bring each celebration to life. We are especially blessed to celebrate and learn in our beautiful St. Joseph Chapel, where these moments of faith and discovery become even more meaningful for our students. A special thank you to Fr. Tyler Tenbarge, Fr. Tyler Underhill, and Fr. Chris Forler for sharing their time, knowledge, and vocation with our students. We are truly blessed to have such dedicated priests guiding and inspiring our Memorial community.

Today we remember and celebrate our beautiful friend and former Assistant Principal, Lisa Popham, on her heavenly birthday. 💙 Lisa faithfully served Reitz Memorial High School for 23 years, pouring her heart into our students, faculty, and families until her passing on April 26, 2020, after a courageous battle with cancer. She had a rare and wonderful gift for seeing the best in people and gently reminding the rest of us to do the same. So many of our favorite memories are found in the everyday moments — shared laughter in the hallway, quick check-ins that turned into real conversations, and those much-needed bursts of fun in the middle of busy days. Her joy and humor are still part of the rhythm of this place. We can still hear her laugh. In her honor today, we invite our Memorial family to give a little extra grace — see the good in someone, offer patience when plans go sideways, and take a moment to sing or dance when stress tries to take over. She would have liked that. “If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together, keep me in your heart. I’ll stay there forever.” — Winnie the Pooh
“A friend is someone who helps you up when you’re down, and if they can’t, they lay down beside you and listen.” — Winnie the Pooh
“We didn’t realize we were making memories, we just knew we were having fun.” — Winnie the Pooh Missed always. Grateful forever that we had her.
