I have been able to do it. I built a small Chrome extension that reads the DOM for what I'm currently playing and sends the result to a small backend I wrote. Android exposes NotificationListenerService and MediaSessionManager API, so I created a small app using Kotlin to listen for media events and send to the endpoint. Everything worked out nicely. There’s a pattern I’m beginning to notice with Nigerian media activism: One person tries to stand up for the masses; with good intentions by the way. But instead of the masses being lifted, that one person is. The people remain where they were. Days or months later, a new voice emerges and the cycle repeats. Individual bravery gets rewarded while collective liberation stays ignored. Maybe this is why Instagram activism is on the rise in Nigeria.
