additional fantasy hearing aid ideas for elves, dragonborn, and tritons!
even though i think the original version could be easily modified for any humanoid, here's some designs more tailored to each species

i couldn't find any high fantasy characters with hearing aids so i designed some! i tried to keep them simple/low tech so they're applicable for as many worlds as possible, while still holding close to how they function irl hopefully it inspires others in the future!

These designs are all killer too, I admit outside of some tweaks to wheelchairs, I’ve not done normal assistive devices much, I mostly messed with and designed things for fictional folk.

@RenRooked Omg I’d love this so much! I’m excited to see the concepts you whip up! And ty again for making this cause having disability aids for fantasy characters feels so rare and I always get excited whenever I discover something for my dnd characters or ocs who need these aids. 🫶🏼

my purpose for sharing was so that they be used and explored further, so YES absolutely you can use these!

@RenRooked Yeah one ear would have that unbalanced element to it. Kind of like how you need both eyes for depth perception. Having aids in only one ear would make it difficult to pinpoint a sound source is in free space. I wonder if the user could rotate those horns at their preference

@RenRooked something to also consider is jewelry that can attach to hearing aid and implants
they are not only fashionable but also helps keep hearing aids from falling off

@dryyaart i believe many fantasy settings have the potential to use magic or an equivalent to create interesting solves, but these were simplified intentionally to let people decide in their world for their characters how they might be customized and tinkered with, but i do wonder too!

@RenRooked For bone vibration based earphones, I know there’re some drawbacks in loss of clarity / increased noise floor that can happen with those, I wonder how this could be improved with the limitations of a high fantasy setting

@dryyaart honestly that's a great question i'll look into it more when i design my second round! but i had it facing forward because i know people with hearing aids in one ear and it can make it hard to discern direction, and in my head i felt facing forward might help narrow things down

@RenRooked I’m not too familiar with hearing aids, so my knowledge is pretty limited to the acoustics (electroacoustics / psychoacoustics) side of things!

@Bu2flyWarr10r honestly i've had a few different people reach out about different ear shapes like elf, dragon, tabaxi, etc and i think i'm going to concept a few out and post them either later tonight or tomorrow!
