On close, the contract computes: **settled = margin + PnL - funding - fee** Then it branches: **settled <= 0: payout 0, the margin flows to the backstop. Loss is capped at what you posted, never more.** **0 < settled <= margin: you get settled, the remainder returns to the backstop.** **settled > margin: profit = settled - margin, and payout = margin + min(profit, backstop).** Read that last line twice. Your principal is senior and is always returned first. Profit is junior and paid only to the extent the backstop can fund it. If it cannot, the profit is trimmed, never anyone else's deposit.
