Networking is a two-way street. Building meaningful professional relationships isn’t about asking for favors - it’s about mutual value, shared interests, and genuine connections. When done right, it opens doors and CREATES opportunity. When one-sided, it feels like a burden. Approach it with finesse, not just ambition.
A strong network isn’t built overnight. It grows through meaningful conversations, showing up, and offering help before asking for it. The best relationships in medicine, business, or any field come from shared experiences, not transactional interactions. People remember those who contribute, not just those who take.
If the only time you reach out is when you need something, that’s not networking - that’s using people. The best connections come from consistency, not convenience. Engage, support, and be present even when you don’t need anything in return.
Great networking isn’t about collecting contacts; it’s about cultivating relationships. The more you invest in others, the more meaningful opportunities will come your way. Give, listen, and connect with authenticity in order to create a professional relationship that is mutually beneficial.
