In a hilarious turn of events, the exact same far right elements that fought in Maidan and later fought the russians in 2014 were financed and promoted by...Russia. Russia used far right rhetoric in eastern europe (and still does) as a weapon against closer ties to the west, EU integration, etc.

People constantly find new ways to justify Russian aggressive behavior. This time it is explained as a "childhood trauma" of the Tatar-Mongol invasion of Rus 500 years ago. Because somehow it's a uniquely russian experience and no country has been invaded before or since?
PBS News@NewsHour

For Americans today, Russia and its capital city, Moscow, are presented as places of peril, with the State Department advising citizens not to travel there. But it has not always been this hostile. Moscow, a place first documented in 1147, has survived invasion, revolution and war to transform into a formidable world power. Compass Points moderator @nickschifrin sat down with author Simon Morrison to discuss his new book, "A Kingdom and a Village: A One-Thousand-Year History of Moscow." The book explores Moscow's complex history and how it helps us understand the present. "The greatest fear in Russian cultural consciousness is chaos and the times when the city burnt down, the times it was marauded," Morrison said. He added that Russian President Vladimir Putin currently uses that fear "to actually say, 'if it weren't for me,' the finger in the dike, kind of thing, you're looking at time of troubles, redux." Compass Points from PBS News analyzes prominent international affairs topics and America’s role in a shifting world, breaking down global conflicts, rising tensions, and their implications for U.S. interests. This is obviously unacceptable, and a clear signal that the Constitution is hereby terminated. Clearly, the United States is a free-for-all now, and you can do what you want.

Moskau konstruiert sich gerade einen Kriegsgrund gegen die baltischen Länder. In Lettland würden angeblich ukrainische Drohnenpiloten UAVs in Richtung Russland starten. Das ist natürlich frei erfunden, trotzdem wird es zur offiziellen Linie des Kreml, der mit Vergeltung droht.
Rihards Kols@RihardsKols

Russia's SVR told the world that Ukrainian drone operators are stationed at Ādaži, Sēlija, Liepāja, Daugavpils, and Jēkabpils military bases. Threatened “just retribution” – as did Russia’s ambassador at the UN just now. This is a clumsy information operation designed for a very specific purpose. First, the facts. Latvia does not provide airspace for attacks on Russia. This has been stated clearly, repeatedly, officially. The accusations are pure fiction. Ukraine has a legitimate right to self-defence, but Kyiv executes it from its own sovereign soil. This SVR operation is not a warning. But it can be a pretext. Moscow always accuses others of exactly what it intends to do. By seeding this fiction through the UN Security Council and proxy Telegram channels, the Kremlin is preparing the information space. The goal is transparent. When Russian military intelligence inevitably attempts to sneak their own drones through Baltic skies or stage a border incident, they now have a pre-written script to blame Kyiv and accuse Riga of complicity. The Russian system relies on manufacturing phantom regional threats to mask its catastrophic reality on the frontline. They want us to flinch at the spectre of escalation. We will not. We should treat this exactly as it is: a staged argument for future provocations. Stay alert, document everything, and deny Moscow the ambiguity it depends on. We know the playbook, we expect the provocation, and we will defend our airspace without hesitation.

A lovely fairy tale: Rosgvardiya Major of the Belgorod Special Rapid Response Unit Осипов Алексей Сергеевич (Osipov Alexey Sergeevich) “was escorting a convoy in the Krasnoyaruzhsky District, when it came under attack by an FPV drone. The officer managed to react and shot down the UAV with a handgun, causing debris to fall on civilians. He stepped toward the enemy drone, shielding the people walking in the convoy. He took the blow upon himself, protecting the escort team from flying debris, and died on the spot from his injuries.” This whole incredible incident happened on 20 March 2025 in Belgorod Oblast, Russia.

Yanking the 5,000 troops from Germany was punitive after Merz said the U.S. had been humiliated by Iran. Poland was not only early anticipating the incoming 4,000 troops from the 2nd ABCT, 1st Cavalry Division, it was lobbying to absorb the withdrawn 5,000. Grynkewich was the only American the Poles could get on the line when DoD announced the canceled deployment, much to their surprise and confusion. He wasn't happy about it. This is just message discipline. American troops are being sought after by NATO allies *most* committed to militarization and greater defense expenditures. This is not because those allies want Americans to fight their wars but because American troops on their soil act as a deterrent to wars being started.
Military Times@MilitaryTimes

Gen. Alexus Grynkewich said Europe should "absolutely" expect additional U.S. troop withdrawals as NATO allies provide more of their own defense. militarytimes.com/news/your-mili…

Calling every country you don’t like a bunch of Tankie buzzwords doesn’t magically make Russian or Chinese invasions okay. Nor does calling their entire military Nazis. If you can’t distinguish between imperfect democracies and authoritarian expansionism, that's your fault.
MakarNaasfalti@naasfaltimakar

What we have learned is that we gain nothing from supporting bourgeois nationalist slave states to increase domestic military spending and disenfranchise communists with slander of "treason" for refusing to fund nazi militias.
