Justice Department expands Trump settlement to cover his tax audits dlvr.it/TScp3t

The US Justice Department has ‘forever barred’ the Internal Revenue Service from pursuing any audits into past tax claims for President Trump, his relatives and his companies, according to a one-page document reut.rs/4nB9qBq

For Americans today, Russia and its capital city, Moscow, are presented as places of peril, with the State Department advising citizens not to travel there. But it has not always been this hostile. Moscow, a place first documented in 1147, has survived invasion, revolution and war to transform into a formidable world power. Compass Points moderator @nickschifrin sat down with author Simon Morrison to discuss his new book, "A Kingdom and a Village: A One-Thousand-Year History of Moscow." The book explores Moscow's complex history and how it helps us understand the present. "The greatest fear in Russian cultural consciousness is chaos and the times when the city burnt down, the times it was marauded," Morrison said. He added that Russian President Vladimir Putin currently uses that fear "to actually say, 'if it weren't for me,' the finger in the dike, kind of thing, you're looking at time of troubles, redux." Compass Points from PBS News analyzes prominent international affairs topics and America’s role in a shifting world, breaking down global conflicts, rising tensions, and their implications for U.S. interests. Let me be clear about what reconciliation is and isn't. It was designed to balance the budget. Not fund the government. Not grow spending. Democrats forced this process, and now we're paying the price.

Taiwan’s never been free from “foreign meddling” since the beginning. Remember…the name of the polity is “Republic of China,” the side that lost the Chinese civil war. “Free China” as it used to be called was super grateful for American aide. As a Taiwanese-American I am grateful. Our polity would have surely been crushed without American protection. For the last 70-80 years we’ve been kept safe. But from the pov of the Chinese, it’s been 70-80 years of foreign interference. You can see it from their side, right? I’m sure if America was in China’s position there would be no hesitation. I mean…America didn’t even hesitate to go into Venezuela or blockade Cuba or attack Iran. So it’s a little hypocritical to talk about Taiwan’s right to be free of foreign meddling when you’ve been meddling for 80 years, from Chinas pov.

“The Trump administration is planning to tell NATO allies this week that it will shrink the pool of military capabilities that the U.S. would have available to assist the alliance's European nations in a major crisis, three sources familiar with the matter said. Under a framework known as the NATO Force Model, the alliance's member countries identify a pool of available forces that could be activated during a conflict or any other major crisis, such as a military attack on a NATO member. While the precise composition of those wartime forces is a closely guarded secret, the Pentagon has decided to significantly scale down its commitment, said the sources, who requested anonymity to speak candidly about the plans.” @G_Slattery @JonathanLanday @andrew_r_gray reuters.com/world/us-plans…

BLANCHE: "The United States...is hereby FOREVER BARRED and PRECLUDED from prosecuting or pursuing...examinations or similar or related reviews" against Trump "or related or affiliated individuals," including family members or related companies and trusts.

Russia's SVR told the world that Ukrainian drone operators are stationed at Ādaži, Sēlija, Liepāja, Daugavpils, and Jēkabpils military bases. Threatened “just retribution” – as did Russia’s ambassador at the UN just now. This is a clumsy information operation designed for a very specific purpose. First, the facts. Latvia does not provide airspace for attacks on Russia. This has been stated clearly, repeatedly, officially. The accusations are pure fiction. Ukraine has a legitimate right to self-defence, but Kyiv executes it from its own sovereign soil. This SVR operation is not a warning. But it can be a pretext. Moscow always accuses others of exactly what it intends to do. By seeding this fiction through the UN Security Council and proxy Telegram channels, the Kremlin is preparing the information space. The goal is transparent. When Russian military intelligence inevitably attempts to sneak their own drones through Baltic skies or stage a border incident, they now have a pre-written script to blame Kyiv and accuse Riga of complicity. The Russian system relies on manufacturing phantom regional threats to mask its catastrophic reality on the frontline. They want us to flinch at the spectre of escalation. We will not. We should treat this exactly as it is: a staged argument for future provocations. Stay alert, document everything, and deny Moscow the ambiguity it depends on. We know the playbook, we expect the provocation, and we will defend our airspace without hesitation.

Gen. Alexus Grynkewich said Europe should "absolutely" expect additional U.S. troop withdrawals as NATO allies provide more of their own defense. militarytimes.com/news/your-mili…

What we have learned is that we gain nothing from supporting bourgeois nationalist slave states to increase domestic military spending and disenfranchise communists with slander of "treason" for refusing to fund nazi militias.
