Tonight: Rensselaer County Legislature will vote on a resolution to call on Governor Kathy Hochul to declare an “Energy State of Emergency” to address the rising costs of utilities impacting our residents. We opposed the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act in 2019

In 2019, the Rensselaer County Legislature warned residents that the CLCPA would raise utility costs. The chickens have come to roost, and we are calling on Governor Hochul to take meaningful action on this costly policy decision.

We opposed the CLCPA in 2019 and watched as our fear became reality. Now, even New York State’s own NYSERDA warns about the rising energy costs that are crushing our residents. It is time for Governor Hochul to take real action and declare an “Energy State of Emergency”!

On President Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, we visit our 120 year old Troy Times newspaper. Abraham Lincoln’s train stopped in Troy on his way to his inauguration in Washington D.C. The train carrying President Lincoln’s body also passed through on its was to Illinois.

The Rensselaer County Legislature held their monthly meeting tonight, and Legislator Bill Maloney motioned to close the meeting in memory of Iryna Zarutska, the Ukrainian refugee who was murdered in Charlotte, North Carolina. #IrynaZarutska Here is what he said:

RENSSELAER COUNTY LEGISLATURE ANNOUNCES SEPTEMBER FOOD DRIVE IN RECOGNITION OF HUNGER ACTION MONTH Chairwoman Kelly Hoffman Encourages Residents to Support a countywide Food Drive to benefit the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York as part of Hunger Action Month.

Rensselaer County Legislature submits resolution calling on NYS DOT to make improvements to NY Route 7/Hoosick Rd. A 2024 study outlined steps that could be taken to make ease traffic. Stopping new development in Brunswick does not solve existing problems.

Tonight, the Rensselaer County Legislature will vote on a resolution to accept more than $4.4 million in reimbursement from New York State for Raise the Age services. Raise the Age has been widely debated about it's effectiveness and impact on the criminal justice system.

The Rensselaer County Legislature Majority is taking a stand against Governor Kathy Hochul’s plan to spend $50M to defend those in this country illegally. That money could be better spent in our communities.

Rensselaer County Legislature Majority has introduced a resolution opposing Governor Hochul’s plan to spend $50M in taxpayer money to cover legal fees for individuals here illegally. That money should help our seniors, veterans, and children—not defend those who break our laws.

North Greenbush Democrats use reckless and divisive “8647” post to fuel division and hatred at a time when threats to public officials are rising. This type of inflammatory hatred has no place in our local political discourse. Shame on them and those who liked the post.

Legislators Bruce Patire and Jeff Wysocki want to remind area residents about this important meeting set for tonight, Wednesday June 11. New York State is considering decommissioning the Dunham Reservoir Dam and negatively impacting the beautifull reservoir.

The Rensselaer County Legislature is informing residents of an important community meeting to be held at the Tamarac High School from 6-8pm on Tuesday, June 11, 2025, to discuss the future of the historic Martin Dunham Reservoir Dam located in Grafton Lakes State Park.

Legislators Tom Grant, Scott Rogers, and Rob Bayly attended the public meeting about the Dunn Landfill on Tuesday. Rensselaer Mayor Mike Stammel was also in attendance. During his time as a County Legislator, Stammel wrote to DEC opposing the original landfill permit.
