Haha yeah it sounds sketchy at first. When a drive comes back we run a secure wipe using proper software that follows modern standards like NIST 800-88. For regular hard drives it usually overwrites the whole thing at least once with random data (sometimes a few passes with zeros, ones, then random patterns). That makes the old info impossible to pull back. A lot of people think fancy labs or the FBI can still recover overwritten data... that's mostly an old myth from the 90s when drives were way less precise. On today's drives, once it's properly overwritten, the original stuff is gone for good. No realistic way to get it back. That's just how we handle it every time.
