A different kind of office this morning. Renters' Voice is very excited for the launch of our first Legislative Theatre "Preventing Homelessness in the Private Rented Sector" workshop!

Today's the final day to sign up to participate as a direct participant & actor in the Renters' Voice legislative theatre project! First of 2 of 4 in-person workshops will begin next week on Thursday, 30th April & Friday, 1st May. We'd love you to join this creative process!

Renters' Voice joined members of Croí for Change at their campaign wrap up event this afternoon. Over the last year Croí for Change campaigned positively against illegal letting fees & Northern Irelands ongoing affordability crisis. We wish all members the best going forward!

Renters’Voice Legislative project aims to highlight issues, influence policy & change practice to prevent homelessness in NI.  We are looking for a group of 10-15 private renters to join us to take part!  No Theatre experience is required & you only need to be a renter.

DFC has launched its consultation on Notice to Quit periods & exceptions under the PTA 2022. The exceptions will allow landlords to provide less notice due to arrears, ASB/criminal behaviour, or if the landlord (or their family) need to use the property.

📣New blog on our website by @RentersVoice The Renters’ Rights Act has recently received Royal Assent in Westminster and will be implemented in England from 1st May 2026. The act is a welcome advancement of tenants' rights within the UK and has brought an end to “No Fault” or Section 21 evictions in England, mirroring similar legislation introduced in Scotland in 2017. The Bill does not apply to Northern Ireland, but we believe it contains changes that would and should be considered by the Minister for Communities to strengthen the protection of private renters in Northern Ireland. 🔗Read more: housingrights.org.uk/professionals/…

This #HomelessnessAwarenessWeek we want to focus on an issue that a lot of private renters are facing i.e. no-fault evictions. No-fault evictions not only impact a renter's living situation, they also impact their mental health, well-being and finances. @RentersVoice “Renters’ Voice recommend the adoption of legislation similar to the Renters’ Rights Act to be implemented in Northern Ireland. The law around letting fees must be clearer, we welcome Ciara Ferguson’s private members bill clarify the law on letting fees in legislation.” #PRS25

@RentersVoice “We oppose the charging of all letting fees. We believe that they run the risk of pricing low-income families out of the running for tenancies.”

@RentersVoice “In our recent research, 94% of Letting Agents tested told us directly that they are charging letting fees - many of which are known to be illegal. On average, agents were charging £54 in illegal letting fees.”

@RentersVoice “Illegal letting fees are also causing serious issues for tenants to securing new tenancies or for those entering the market. Despite the Loughran Case in 2017, many letting agents continue to advertise and charge illegal letting fees.” #PRS25
