Newsom only cancelled school for a year and half for public school students. His own kids got to go back to in person school about a year earlier than most at a private school.

The latest national report card shows troubling signs for California students. Reading and math scores dropped again despite record amounts of educational spending. This is the direct result of failed leadership that mandated the longest school shutdowns in the entire country.

I’m glad to see @GavinNewsom prioritize in-person education during this emergency. On Tuesday, Newsom signed an Executive Order aimed at getting kids impacted by the LA wildfires back in the classroom sooner. @GavinNewsom In Oct 2021, @meta shut down two California reopen schools groups and the Bucks County, PA one. All three groups mysteriously closed and then were just as mysteriously reinstated after @juliewattsTV and @KevinKileyCA demanded answers. (P.S. We still don’t have them.)

Oakland High School in Oakland, California, a school with 85% of kids living in poverty The principal announces over the loudspeaker that school will close for three weeks, effective that day, joking, “If you have any additional questions, don’t ask them, because we don’t have the answers.” A teacher tells students to let them know if they don’t have internet access, but since many of them are tech savvy, “I know you’re going to figure some way to get in touch with us.” The school did not reopen for 17 months, and since then, around half of the students have been chronically absent. Never forget.

Students First California strongly opposes #AB1955. Involving parents when a school takes an active role in socially transitioning a child is critical for the well-being of children and for maintaining trust between schools and parents. AB 1955 does the opposite.

Did you know California law allows members of the public to place matters directly related to school district business on the agenda of school board meetings? School boards are also required to adopt reasonable regulations so that the intent of this law is carried out.
