I am saddened by the passing of Governor Lolo Letalu Matalasi Moliga. He was a strong and decisive leader, and above all a man of faith. He has a secure place in American Samoa’s history. My deepest condolences to Cynthia Moliga and the entire Moliga family.

“In American Samoa, we know the power of tsunamis, and we recognize the possibility of volcanic activity in our region from seamounts. Recently, the House passed bipartisan legislation reauthorizing the National Volcano Early Warning System through 2030.”

I’m honored to be an original cosponsor of the bipartisan bill to reauthorize the Young Fishermen’s Development Act. This effort supports training and opportunities for the next generation of fishermen, strengthens food security, and reflects the fishing traditions that sustain our island communities.

I was grateful to take part in a House hearing on the horrific violence in Sudan. I deeply respect Chairman Smith and the witnesses who continue to speak for persecuted people of all faiths. The suffering in Sudan is heartbreaking, and they need our prayers, attention, and action.

I’m thankful to see our bipartisan bill pass Committee to guarantee in-state tuition for students from the territories. With Chairman Walberg and my colleagues, we’re working to ease the financial burden on families and expand fair access to higher education for our students.

As Vice Chair of House Veterans’ Affairs, I’m grateful to highlight Veteran provisions in the FY26 NDAA. These reforms strengthen TAP accountability, expand financial counseling and spouse access, and help speed VA claims, so our servicemembers are better supported as they transition to civilian life.

As Vice Chairman of HVAC, I’m welcoming final passage of the Veterans’ COLA Act of 2025, ensuring a cost-of-living boost in key benefits. “Thank you to all our Veterans for their service.” I also welcome Senate passage of The Medal of Honor Act, strengthening support for recipients.

I joined Reps. King-Hinds, Plaskett & Moylan to introduce H.R. 5960 restoring duty-free treatment for shipments from the territories. “Our people in the islands deserve the same federal services at the same rates as the rest of the United States.” This bill fixes recent disruptions.

The longest-ever U.S. government shutdown is officially over. The President has signed the funding bill into law after final House passage, renewing funding and restoring paychecks for our military, air traffic controllers, and all federal employees.

Grateful our Armed Forces are receiving pay despite the shutdown. Our Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen, and Coast Guardsmen should never serve without pay. The Senate must act now to reopen government and bring stability to our military families. #Shutdown #Military #AmericanSamoa
