America has a lot of options to deal with Iran and despite what DC myopic cynics say, we control the timeline. A lot of the armchair analysis treat gas prices and the Nov elections like a systemic rather than temporary factor. Personally, I’d keep the foot on the gas but just as the history of warfare often followed a “fighting season” along the agricultural cycle so too could there be a reduction in intensity for “election season” related to impacts of global economic factors. Big picture America is much safer than we were 10 weeks ago because Irans military capability, nuke program, terrorist proxy network is much reduced and their leaders know they can be reached out and touched at will. If the Iranians IRCG were smart (unlikely), they’d cut a real agreement right now, because post November Donald Trump will likely be in less of a mood to “negotiate.” 🇺🇸

Whip Tom Emmer has established a wonderful “Catholic Connections” monthly gathering of Catholic electeds to discuss their faith journey and answer questions like “how did you pick your Confirmation saint?” with a fun and thoughtful (and growing) group of electeds and staff. A few weeks ago I was the special guest, today it was Vice President JD Vance’s turn. What a great discussion as the VP shared stories how he became a convert and what prayer time and mass are like for his own children. Thoughtful and inspiring. 🇺🇸

College athletics is so crazy now. Cal baseball, a team located on the Pacific coast but somehow in the ACC, flew to Charlotte, North Carolina for a single-elimination conference tournament game against Stanford… a school 90 minutes from their campus. They traveled 2,715 miles across the country to play a regional rival, lost one game, then had to hop on a 5.5-hour flight back to California 😂

I’ve not been a fan of the SCORE act pushed by the SEC (and BIG 10) because it doesn’t create a level playing field for all athletes and all schools, but tying up the subject of needed college sports policy reform with the politics of redistricting is counterproductive and weird. 🇺🇸

Exciting morning back in district! Trying to solve a leak under the sink. I really enjoy being a member of Congress, but one of the things you quickly learn is that all of the usual home maintenance and “honey-do’s” don’t suddenly magical disappear when you’re in DC, lol. With votes getting moved back a day I got an extra chance to see if I can solve this leaky sink conundrum without having to call in a real plumber. Wish me luck. 🇺🇸

No one is surprised that Bob once again seeks to distract from his embarrassing record as Governor by seeking attention to live out his fantasies on national political issues. When the country needs leaders to step up and commit to electoral fairness, Bob seeks to make a left-wing politically dominated state even more disproportionately Democrat. (By contrast, when I was in the state Senate I co-sponsored and helped pass legislation to give Spokane County Democrats fair representation on the County Commission, going from 3R-0D to 3R-2D, which fairly reflects the partisan voter makeup of the county). Our state is currently 40% Republican, yet Rs has only 2 out of 10 Congressional seats. Instead of trying to further take away a choice or reflective representation, Bob should focus on his self-inflicted reckless budget and tax hike mess killing the small business and jobs growth in Washington state. Trying to make Washington’s Congressional map look like Massachusetts or Illinois by throwing out the bipartisan redistricting process enshrined in Washington’s constitution ain’t gonna fix what’s wrong with our state. Do your job, Bob. Focus on fixing the state.🇺🇸

President Trump put out the call to rig the system in order to maintain the Republican majority in Congress, and red states are answering. I support efforts to level the playing field. In Washington state, we would need a two-thirds majority in both the House and Senate to change our redistricting process. Thinking about my Congressional trip to China last year - some of the architecture in Beijing was quite notable. Our meetings with the Chinese Premier and Foreign Minister took place in the Great Hall of the People which had a very striking Cold War type vibe. 🇺🇸

Never thought America could be learning economic lessons from Sweden, but here we are. Today I met with a group of Republicans to talk about how to reform government and address the spiraling national debt. I brought up Sweden’s embrace of capitalism, privatization, lower taxes and regs and reigning in reckless spending as lessons to be learned from. Good read. 👇🇺🇸
