The U.S. Navy’s MQ-25 Stingray completed its first flight, marking a major step forward for the future of carrier-based unmanned refueling aircraft. This historic flight took off from MidAmerica St. Louis Airport in Mascoutah, where Boeing and its workforce continue to lead the way in cutting-edge aerospace innovation. Congratulations to everyone involved in this milestone and the hard work that made it possible. Proud to see such a big accomplishment come out of Southern Illinois.

This week I was proud to help introduce the Homegrown Fertilizer Act, which cuts red tape for small and mid-sized fertilizer producers and expands USDA access to loans and grants to grow domestic production and storage. This means more competition, more supply, and more fertilizer made here in the United States for our farmers.

Honored to help present 204 American flags flown over the U.S. Capitol with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation in remembrance of fallen firefighters from across the country, including Illinois’ own Captain David J. Meyer. As Chairman of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus and one of the only former firefighters in Congress, I will always stand with the families and fire service community we owe so much to. These flags will now make their way to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, Maryland, as part of a lasting tribute to their service and sacrifice.

In recent years, we’ve seen some pretty harrowing reports of accidents related to air travel, including a mid-air collision between a passenger plane and a military helicopter in the nation’s capital. I supported the ALERT Act this week to strengthen aviation safety by improving coordination between civilian and military aircraft, upgrading critical safety technology, and increasing oversight and accountability across our nation’s airspace system.

This year, my office is hosting a Congressional Art Competition Traveling Art Show to highlight the creativity and talent of students across Southern Illinois. We’re kicking off the first stop at the Effingham Public Library starting Thursday, April 16, featuring submissions from this year’s competition. The winning piece will be displayed in the halls of Congress for one year, and I encourage everyone to come out and see the impressive work these students have created.

President Trump has made clear that reopening the Strait of Hormuz is critical to global security and keeping energy markets moving. He and his administration have worked tirelessly to find a peaceful path forward. The ball is now in Iran’s court, and I pray they make a decision that prevents further escalation in the region.

I voted for the Made in America Jobs Act this week, which expands Economic Development Administration grants to help bring jobs back to the U.S. and grow our manufacturing sector. We should be proudly investing in American communities and American workers – the most skilled workforce in the world.
