Yet another person is dead as a result of violence by ICE, this time in Biddeford, Maine. While we urgently await a full, independent investigation into this death, we are left questioning why ICE agents have again shot into a moving car, as they did with Renee Good. This rogue agency is irredeemable and must be abolished.

While we disagreed about nearly everything, Lindsay Graham’s career in public service included being a champion for Ukraine and a steadfast ally in the fight against antisemitism — both of which I’m grateful for. My thoughts are with his family, his community, and the people of South Carolina today.

ICE has no business in New York. Earlier this year, they released a blind refugee alone late at night, forcing him to walk miles in the freezing cold, which led directly to his tragic death. Now they want to build another warehouse camp right near that location. I urge all my colleagues to visit these ICE detention facilities and to ensure humane treatment for the detainees. Glad a Georgia judge saw through Trump’s absurd and illegitimate attempt to relitigate the 2020 election. Now six years on, Trump and his cronies have never presented any credible evidence to support their baseless claims of fraud. As costs for basic necessities like food, rent and health care continue to climb, Americans are now being forced to pay significantly higher prices for air travel as a direct result of Trump’s reckless war in Iran. Promises made, promises broken: His policies have only exacerbated the affordability crisis he claimed he would fix.

Deeply grateful to @SpeakerMenin and @NYCCouncil for securing $4 million to support the long-overdue investigation into the 9/11 toxins and the City’s knowledge about the health risks that New Yorkers faced. The survivors and brave first responders deserve to know the truth. It has been long enough.

This rogue Supreme Court doesn’t care that Haitian and Syrian immigrants cannot safely return to their home countries. They don’t care that Trump continues to rip away lawful status from people following the rules. They are throwing them out anyway, and forcing them to return home, putting their lives in immediate danger. If Republicans are able to join Democrats in pushing Speaker Johnson to bring TPS for Haiti for a vote on the floor, then they can also join us in calling out this reckless and dangerous ruling.

This morning, I conducted my 25th oversight visit at 26 Federal Plaza. We’ve made a lot of progress improving conditions for detainees and highlighting DHS’s despicable tactics over the last 7 months - but the work isn’t over.
