29 unseated US Senators have tried to return to that chamber since WWII. Two of them are Ohio Democrats: Sherrod Brown, running next year against incumbent Republican Jon Husted, and Howard Metzenbaum in 1974. Metzenbaum lost that year to Robert Taft Jr. but won in 1976.

Someone made a baseball movie montage and it actually deserves an Oscar.

On this day in 1983, 100 Million Americans tuned in to watch The Day After. This apocalyptic TV movie was a graphic depiction of what would happen if the USA and Russia started firing nuclear weapons at each other. Guess what... it didn't end well. Maybe it's worth a rewatch.

I remember reading a long time ago that Quentin Tarantino once considered directing a John Brown biopic. That would have been one of the greatest movies of all time. If he’d started his raid 6 months later he’s an outright Union hero & there’s a John Brown High School in every state north of the Mason-Dixon line. 6 months earlier - he’s hanged. History is wild.

Joe DiMaggio only played 13 full seasons but won 9 World Series. He played from 1936-1942, joined the Air Force for WWII, then played again from 1946-1951. He wasn't a first-ballot HOF'er - it took until his third ballot
