Juan Chavez Velasco is free! After 3 months of wrongful detainment, Juan, a DACA recipient and active member of our Weslaco community, is finally home with his wife, Stephanie, and their children. I met with Stephanie in my Washington,D.C. office this past week to discuss the latest on Juan’s situation and express my support for their family. Public pressure works, and we must continue shedding light on this Administration’s abuse of power, which has led to the targeting of individuals legally authorized to live and work in the U.S.

We have a responsibility to protect the brave men and women who swear an oath to defend this country. Every service member and military family deserves transparency and accountability. I am urging the Acting Secretary of the Navy to bring the Resendiz family the closure they rightfully deserve and help ensure that no other family is forced to endure the same pain.

Cheap foreign seafood imports, severe labor shortages, and sky rocketing fuel prices are wrecking the Texas Gulf Coast shrimper and fishing industry. I'm urging the Administration to release more H2-B and H2-A visas, so employers can hire the work force they need to sustain operations ahead of the July commercial season.

Texas ranks 2nd in the nation for fraud complaints, with most folks over the age of 60 being prime targets. On National Senior Fraud Awareness Day, let's continue to hold scammers accountable. Online Travel Agent platforms like Expedia, Booking.com, Airbnb, Priceline, and Tripadvisor have a pattern of deceiving and scamming so many Americans out of their hard-earned money. I'm demanding the CEOs of these popular booking platforms do a better job at protecting travelers. If not, I'm prepared to introduce legislation and pursue other means to hold them accountable.

#TeamGonzalez joined the City of San Benito to honor the life and legacy of Lieutenant Milton Resendez with the unveiling of a new memorial highway. For nearly 30 years, Lt. Resendez served and bravely protected our neighbors in San Benito and Cameron County. His sacrifice leaves behind an indelible mark on our community. During National Police Week, I had the honor of welcoming the Brownsville Police Department Honor Guard to Washington, D.C., to discuss my efforts to bring more resources down for local law enforcement officers. Since coming to Congress, I have secured millions in federal funding to support police departments across South Texas. Together, we will continue working to keep our communities safe! 🚔

Labor shortages driven by H-2B visa caps are threatening the Gulf Coast shrimping industry with a major collapse just before the July shrimping season. I'm calling on President Trump and his Administration to immediately release more H-2B or H-2A visas for employers who are already approved for temporary labor but unable to secure the workers they need. We must bring certainty to so many small family-owned businesses and coastal communities in South Texas!

For many veterans, adjusting back to civilian life isn’t always easy. But with the help of our South Texas community and an $850,000 direct federal investment I secured, our region came together to break ground on a new home for VFW Post 2410. By replacing an old, severely damaged building with a 10,000 square-foot facility, we will provide our veterans and their families a safer place to gather and receive support!

🚨BIG win for South Texas! The House passed a bipartisan bill that I co-led, the Save Our Shrimpers Act, which would block the use of your tax dollars from financing foreign shrimp markets and operations.   Shrimpers in the Gulf Coast have been hit with foreign competition, sky high fuel prices and severe labor shortages. The passage of this bill is a step forward in fighting for our small family-owned businesses and coastal communities!

When a South Texas veteran returns from war, we owe it to them to provide the best possible support they need to reacclimate to civilian life or obtain their military benefits. Today, I joined South Texas veterans, @Noble Texas Builders, and local leaders to deliver on this promise with the groundbreaking of the new VFW Post 2410. With my work to secure $850,000 in direct community project funding, this new 10,000 square-foot facility in Harlingen will improve available resources for our veterans and their families.
