We continue to try to protect funding for California’s nationally leading innovation and scientific research. That’s why I joined my California colleagues in Congress to urge the OMB Director to revoke the proposed rule that would politicize the federal grant process. I will continue to work to protect our independent research from political influence so that our state and the entire nation can remain a global leader in innovation.

Last month, Congress worked to address our nation’s affordability crisis by passing bipartisan legislation to protect housing subsidies for rural communities and low-income families and provide more flexibility for community banks to provide more home loans to working families. We actually did our job in Congress, in a bipartisan manner, to address a serious issue as housing prices are at an all time high and over 43 million people spend over a third of their income on housing, including 12 million that spend over 50% of their income on housing. This is a huge first step to address a serious issue in our communities and country. However, the President called it a “big yawn” and wouldn’t sign it. Rather than do what he promised when it comes to reducing prices, the President instead pushes purely partisan legislation that makes it more difficult to vote, talks about using taxpayers’ money to fund his ballroom, and makes enormous personal gains from crypto deals. Despite the petulance of this President, our important bipartisan bill became law. More needs to be done on making housing more affordable and that is why I will continue to push my bipartisan bills to increase the capital gains tax exemption on home sales, provide a first time homebuyers tax credit, and create a tax credit for workforce housing. npr.org/2026/07/10/nx-…

I’ll always fight to make sure my constituents get the care they need. When a constituent reached out after her federal employee health insurance denied her request to cover the cost of a critical hip surgery, I quickly contacted the Office of Personnel Management and pushed them on her behalf. Within just a couple of weeks, her surgery was approved and scheduled. Happy to get this message from her husband.

New oil and gas leases near California’s Central Coast would jeopardize our thriving coastal economy and undermine our way of life. That’s why I’ve consistently led legislation to prevent new leasing along our coastline and opposed this Administration’s efforts to expand drilling operations. Although we can’t rely on what the President says about it, we can rely on the renewed U.S. strikes and Iranian drone attacks to determine the defective status of the inconclusive negotiations and ineffective ceasefire. This is the continued effect of entering into war without a clear strategy, congressional approval, or the consensus of the American public. Great to meet with local advocates to discuss ways we can support our Indian-American community and ensure a strong relationship between the U.S. and India.

Our student athletes need guidance and clarity when it comes to the taxes they pay on their NIL earnings. In the Ways and Means Committee, I pressed for answers on how we can support our student athletes in CA-19 and across the country, and I will continue to work in Congress to ensure they have the tools they need to succeed.

A local farmer contacted me recently about filing for compensation from the Department of Agriculture but never heard back. I immediately contacted the agency, got them to work to address the problem, and I’m happy to report that within just a few weeks, the constituent received their check for nearly $8,000. Proud to put money back in the pockets of hard working Americans.
