Yesterday, Illinois made a choice. I want to congratulate my friend @JulianaStratton on becoming the Dem nominee for U.S. Senate.
It is noteworthy our nominee is:
a capable, competent and relentless champion.
a mother.
a past member of the IL House Black Caucus.
a CPS graduate.
a University of Illinois alum.
a DePaul Law grad.
a SouthSider.
Raja Krishnamoorthi & Robin Kelly ran serious campaigns. And they deserve credit for that.
Illinois voters retired 2 sluggish, obsolete, tired ideas in one election. 2 fallacies that the chattering class in this state keep getting wrong:
The one about “splitting the Black vote” & that money can substitute for connection.
There is no such thing as splitting the black vote here. That trope is old. It’s lazy. And frankly, it’s insulting.
Illinois doesn’t vote that way. We never have.
And on money; you can’t shout “no kings” while planning a coronation. Money matters. But it doesn’t vote.
Primaries are tough, but they are telling.
What Illinois showed isn’t division. It’s maturity.
Congratulations, Juliana. Let’s get to work.

Rev. Jackson didn’t just lead a movement, he expanded what we saw as possible. I filed HB5726 to designate a stretch of the Dan Ryan as the Jesse L. Jackson Sr. Memorial Highway. A road that runs through our history should carry the name of one of the leaders who helped shape it.

As a former @IlliniFootball DL, I loved the way Coach Jamison’s guys played; firing off the ball, low pads, violent hands, great eye discipline. Aggressive, but smart. Physical, but aware. That’s coached.
But he didn’t stop at technique. He coached how to be accountable, how to lead, how to be built for others and he’s a a man of faith.
Nearly Twenty years removed from my own last snap, he’s a coach I genuinely wish I’d played for. Illinois is better because of Terrence Jamison.

There is only one reason to post something like this.
It’s a deliberate strategy: double down on racism and the racists applaud; the cowards shrink and wait for it to pass; everyone else is rightly outraged. And in all that noise, the hope is that people stop paying attention to the Oval Office connection to Epstein and the constant rhythm of nefarious activity.
We’ve seen this instinct before.
On January 6, an angry mob stormed the Capitol to overturn a democratic election. One of the most revealing moments that day came when a Black Capitol Police officer drew the mob away from the lawmakers they came there for; not with force, but by exploiting their fixation. Their hatred made them predictable. Their racism made them manipulable.
That’s the throughline.
This type of racism isn’t just morally bankrupt, it’s a tool. A diversion. A way to keep followers emotionally charged while leaders evade accountability for their own misconduct.
America deserves better than leaders who trade in dehumanization to avoid responsibility and better than a politics that relies on hatred to function.

I had the chance to meet Ronnie DeVoe of New Edition and Bell Biv DeVoe at Success Barber Salon—a true Black-owned community staple. Ronnie was in town for a concert at the United Center, and it meant a lot that he made time to support Black businesses while he was here.
That kind of intentional support matters. It’s about more than music or a visit—it’s about investing in our communities and uplifting the entrepreneurs who help them thrive. 👏🏾
