It was an honor to speak to the members of the @AMFOREST_ORG to recognize the importance of their legacy and dedication to our community. I’ve been so thankful to the timber companies and saw mills in Southwest Washington that have opened their doors to me so I can bring that knowledge with me to DC.

We need to look at all different solutions to help folks keep a roof over their heads. I had the opportunity to meet with the @VancouverUS and folks who rely on the Safe RV Park Program to understand what’s working and what’s not.

Thank you to @Cascadiatech1 for having me visit your Forest Management Program Class. It’s exciting to meet students that are interested in building careers in the woods. We talked about the importance of my plan to expand the eligible uses of 529 education savings plans to include the tools necessary for technical careers. It’s time to remove barriers for the next generation of tradespeople.

Please stop trying to murder the president

In my county, we’re seeing a 30% increase in search and rescue calls—the vast majority involving people from outside the county. Our search and rescue teams are being forced to do more with less. I’m working to change that. My amendment to help make our rural counties whole is now law. And I’ll keep working to bring federal dollars home for rural communities and law enforcement.

Between the cost of lawsuits and a constrained state budget, hatcheries are facing closure. The recreational and subsistence fishing that comes from Steelhead is vital to our community. They cannot become an extinct species. I am pushing state leaders to re-open Skamania Hatcheries and looking for solutions at the federal level as well.

As foreign investors buy up more of our forest land, our community continues to be boxed out of the woods we have had access to for generations. Right now, one German royal family controls 7.3% of the land in Wahkiakum County. Today, I am urging two German Princes to reopen regulated hunting access on this land. Access to forest land is not simply a cultural tradition, but also an important driver of local economy and a way to put food on the table. We can’t lose our forests. Surveillance pricing means big corporations buy up your location and income data and know exactly how likely you are to drive to a cheaper store when you’re desperate for kids cough syrup at 2am and they charge you as much money as they can wring out of you. I’m fighting to stop these practices.

Right now, only one VA facility nationwide allows veterans who live in their vehicles or RVs the option of secure overnight parking at the VA facility - which provides vets with an option of not driving home that same day. I’d like to see this system replicated nationally, and my colleagues agree. We’re urging the Secretary to expand this program across the country so that veterans don’t delay critical medical care because they can’t find someone to drive them home after appointments.

The last thing veterans need after serving their country is to be forced into one-size-fits all housing solutions when they’re trying to build their own home or site their RV. My amendment asks @DeptVetAffairs to allow veterans to use their VA home loan for land to park their mobile home or RV on.

We have thousands of homeless veterans; we have military housing in disrepair. We ought to be able to tell our veterans and our service members that this military construction and VA bill is not the piggy bank that will be raided for the triumphal arch. I’m disappointed my amendment to safeguard these funds wasn’t adopted.

WA state regs make it illegal for some daycare teachers to peel a banana - but opening a bag of Cheetos is just fine. Sadly, many states in the country treat serving fruits and vegetables in the same bureaucratic class as making sushi - and the result is more processed food for toddlers. We see eye to eye on this @SecRollins @USDA - help us fix these nonsense food prep regulations and legalize fresh fruit for our toddlers!
