Permanent daylight saving time comes with serious health and safety concerns.

Nobody should be assaulted, threatened, arrested, prosecuted, or killed for standing up for the rights of our immigrant neighbors.

In less than a week, ICE agents have shot and killed 2 people in Texas and Maine. These tragedies show, once again, the human cost of Republicans' refusal to put guardrails on the use of force by federal immigration agents.  Although Congressional Republicans have showered DHS with billions of tax dollars, none of the agents involved were wearing body cameras, which could confirm the official versions of events that are already being questioned. With this administration failing to investigate or hold accountable immigration agents who kill or inflict serious bodily harm on citizens and legal residents, I introduced  H.R. 8862, the No Special Immunity for Violating Our State Laws Act, which will ensure that states can hold ICE and other federal agents accountable for criminal acts against their states' residents. Congress needs to act now to protect our communities.

This White House's attacks on  American journalists raise 2 important questions: 1. What are they so afraid of? (Answer: The truth) and 2. Has today's GOP become so cowardly and complicit that no one in that party will defend the First Amendment? (Answer: ????? We're still waiting!)

I joined tens of thousands of people to celebrate the centennial of the Ben Franklin Bridge that joins Camden and Philadelphia. It was the longest single span suspension bridge in the world when it was built, and has been connecting generations of families, businesses and communities ever since. Had some fun recreating a photo taken by a great aunt on the day that the bridge opened, July 1, 1926!

Scientists and medical professionals have done the research: permanent standard time is healthier and safer than permanent daylight savings time.

Last week, I joined with faith leaders, elected officials, and community members in the shadow of Independence Hall to pray, bear witness, and stand in solidarity with immigrant members of our community and their families and in opposition to the cruel and destructive campaign of mass deportation undertaken by this administration in violation of basic due process and human rights. We all can take steps to right these wrongs by advocating for a more just and compassionate immigration system and by working in our communities to recognize and affirm the dignity of every person.

The court's opinion allowing Trump's DOJ to overturn the successful prosecutions of some of the most violent and dangerous conspirators who attacked the US Capitol on January 6 demonstrates precisely why Congress needs to pass my bill. The No Free Passes for Cronies Act aims to prevent the politically motivated dismissal of criminal charges. Specifically, the legislation seeks to amend Rule 48(a) of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure to require courts to weigh the "interests of justice" before allowing the government to drop cases.

We had a great visit to the Norristown Farm Park run by the Philadelphia Horticultural Society. At a time when so many in our community are struggling to afford basic groceries, PHS is making an outsized impact in Norristown, producing over 10 tons of fruits and vegetables for local food banks, running community gardening, nutrition, workforce development, and food as medicine programs. PHS is demonstrating every day the power of investments in our communities that yield benefits to mental and physical health, community safety, and economic opportunity.

Last week, we marked the 158th anniversary of the ratification of the 14th Amendment, which established that all persons (not just citizens) are entitled to federal protection of their rights to due process and equal protection of the law. The Fourteenth Amendment also overturned the notorious Dred Scott decision and affirmed the right of birthright citizenship. On this anniversary, we reflect on our obligation under the Constitution to strive continually for a more perfect union that protects and guarantees those rights for all, and not just those who are rich or powerful. For if we fail to stand up for the rights of those who are different or have been marginalized, then we fail to stand up for ourselves and our most basic American values.

When private equity treats hospitals and nursing homes as cash cows, patient care suffers and hospitals and nursing homes close. My bill, the Take Back Our Hospitals Act, will ensure that hospitals and nursing homes serve patients, not Wall Street investors.

Last week, to kick off the Fourth of July weekend, I attended a ceremonial session of Congress in Philadelphia. This event celebrated the 250 years of our great nation and the progress we have made.

To ensure that, I’m introducing the Health and Location Data Protection Act, a bill designed to protect consumers’ information by stopping data brokers from selling or sharing location and health data and ensuring that the Federal Trade Commission enforces the law. We must set clear rules and standards to protect Americans’ privacy and to stop companies from profiting off your personal information.

Critical programs dismantled, thousands of jobs lost, countless lives ruined and everyone worse off. And the debt is now higher than ever. DOGE was a failure of leadership to the highest degree.
