The U.S. has passed $39 TRILLION in debt. Paying JUST the interest on the debt is projected to surpass $1 trillion this year—more than we spend on defense, and soon on Medicare. America’s national debt is nearly $39 trillion and growing. This poses a serious threat to our long-term economic security. I introduced the Debt-to-GDP Transparency and Stabilization Act, which would require Congress to consider the debt-to-GDP ratio when making decisions about the federal budget. The more clearly we understand the scale of our debt, the better equipped we are to address it.

This weekend in Lancaster, I had the privilege of presenting the General Carl A. Spaatz Award—the highest honor in the Civil Air Patrol cadet program—to Cadet Colonel Slater Shannon. Only a small percentage of CAP cadets earn this award after years of leadership training, service, and academic achievement. As our nation marks its 250th year, it’s inspiring to see young leaders like Slater stepping forward with a commitment to service, discipline, and love of country.
