For 14 years, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) has protected young immigrants who were brought to the United States as children, allowing them to work, attend school, and build their futures in the only country many have ever called home. As we mark this anniversary, we must continue fighting to protect that promise.

Today, we remember the 49 angels lost at Pulse Nightclub. As we honor their memory, we stand with the survivors and loved ones and remember that hate has no place in our nation. We will never forget.

Now off to college. The 2026 Wilson Scholars of the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project were celebrated this past weekend at our Academic Signing Ceremony. Through hard work, perseverance, and a commitment to excellence, these outstanding young men have earned scholarship opportunities and are taking the next step toward a bright future. Congratulations, scholars. Your journey is just beginning.

Immigrant Heritage Month is a celebration of the cultures, traditions, and stories that make South Florida and our nation stronger. Together, we honor the generations of immigrants whose contributions continue to shape our communities and our future.

Leadership starts long before a title is earned. The 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project was built on the belief that every young person can succeed when given the support, guidance, and opportunity to thrive. As we celebrate the end of another school year, I am proud of these young men and the example they set every day.

I voted NO on H.R. 8646 because I believe every child deserves food on the table, every family deserves to live a quality of life, and every American deserves a government that puts them before politics.
