This week I voted to stop the production and sale of kratom in Michigan and protect people from a substance that’s flown under the radar for too long without proper safeguards. Kratom is largely unregulated, and health officials have raised concerns over risks like addiction, contamination, and serious adverse side effects. We have a responsibility to step in before more people are put at risk. #Michigan #LivingstonCounty #HartlandMI #HowellMI #FowlervilleMI #PinckneyMI #staterepresentative

Thank you, @Th_Midwesterner , for highlighting the issues within the Unemployment Insurance Agency that our Oversight Committee is uncovering. Many Michiganders are still dealing with the lingering fallout from pandemic‑era unemployment assistance problems, with repayment notices surfacing years later and system backlogs continuing to create real challenges for families across the state. The House Oversight Committee remains committed to working toward solutions that ease this burden and provide greater stability for Michiganders moving forward. #Michigan #LivingstonCounty #HartlandMI #HowellMI #FowlervilleMI #PinckneyMI #staterepresentative themidwesterner.news/2026/03/house-…

Voter ID laws are an important safeguard against the manipulation of our election systems. That’s why I introduced House Bill 4765, legislation that strengthens those protections by requiring proof of citizenship when voting in Michigan elections. Michiganders deserve full confidence that our elections reflect the voices of the people who call this state home. Protecting the integrity of our democratic process means ensuring only eligible citizens participate, while keeping voting accessible for every lawful voter. From the State House to the White House, we’re working to uphold the constitutional foundation of our elections and strengthen trust in the system that represents us all. #Michigan #LivingstonCounty #HartlandMI #HowellMI #FowlervilleMI #PinckneyMI #staterepresentative

Thank you to Southwest Elementary for the opportunity to read to some of our students this morning as part of March is Reading Month! I enjoyed sharing a book about construction, which was especially fitting as they watch their new school being built, and talking with them about the role of our state government. It was a pleasure spending time with such enthusiastic and curious young leaders! #Michigan #LivingstonCounty #MarchisReadingMonth #Hartlandmi #Howellmi #Fowlervillemi #Pinckneymi #staterepresentative

On Tuesday, I presented before the House Oversight Committee regarding the Oversight Subcommittee on State and Local Assistance Programs’ investigation into Michigan’s Food Stamps program and the high error rate that could cost Michigan taxpayers an estimated $300 million. During my testimony, I discussed the findings our subcommittee has uncovered, including a 9.53% error rate and the lack of adequate safeguards on the front end to prevent improper payments. These issues not only put federal funding at risk but also erode public confidence in a program designed to support those in need. What became clear throughout our investigation is that the current system lacks the accountability measures necessary to ensure accuracy and prevent waste, fraud, and abuse. When eligibility determinations rely too heavily on self attestation, the state becomes vulnerable to errors that stronger verification practices could have prevented. These shortcomings have resulted in some eligible individuals being underpaid while others who should be ineligible receive benefits they are not entitled to. When our assistance programs that are meant to help people allow fraud and waste to slip through the cracks, it betrays the trust of the public. Michigan can and must do better. #Michigan #LivingstonCounty #Hartlandmi #Howellmi #Fowlervillemi #Pinckneymi #staterepresentative

With a SNAP error rate of 9.53%, Michigan is at risk of a $300 million federal fine, placing a significant financial burden on all taxpayers and families. Despite these alarming numbers, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services continues to rely heavily on self‑attestation during the eligibility process, maintaining that fraud and inaccuracies can be addressed “on the back end.” These gaps have allowed improper payments and potential fraud to go undetected. The House Oversight Subcommittee on State and Local Assistance Programs will continue investigating these issues to ensure taxpayer dollars are protected and that our assistance programs operate with integrity and truly serve the individuals and families who rely on them. #Michigan #LivingstonCounty #Hartlandmi #Howellmi #Fowlervillemi #Pinckneymi #staterepresentative

Today, I had the pleasure of meeting with the Howell Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Livingston class. During our discussion, we explored essential leadership skills crucial for fostering the growth of our local businesses. Additionally, we emphasized the significant impact that emerging leaders can have in shaping a brighter future for our community. I am grateful for the opportunity to connect to some of our local business owners, and I look forward to seeing how these emerging leaders will shape the future of our community. #Michigan #LivingstonCounty #Hartlandmi #Howellmi #Fowlervillemi #Pinckneymi #staterepresentative

Michigan's public assistance programs are failing. The current administration of benefits has allowed millions of dollars in fraud because the system relies on applicants to self-report ineligibility. Now, Michigan is facing HUNDREDS of millions in penalties if we don't right the ship. We can't rely on pinky-swear fraud checks to keep bad actors out of the system. We need REAL security measures to preserve SNAP and Bridge Card dollars for families and seniors who really need them.

A new report exposes how Michigan lets people defraud our welfare system. House Republicans are getting to the bottom of it! We cannot rely on pinky-swear promises from to keep bad actors and illegal activity out of our food stamp program. We need REAL security like: 📝Requiring applicants to provide the most information up front that federal law allows 🪪Instituting photo ID and signature verification on all Bridge cards 🚫Prohibiting out-of-state purchases 💳Conversion of all physical Bridge cards to chip-enabled devices 🤝Requiring MDHHS to partner with the Trump Administration to lower error rates 🔍Instituting a system of quality control reviews via the Legislature

While residents across the state are being stretched thin, my fellow House Republicans and I are working to ensure that hardworking Michiganders see real relief, not temporary fixes, so they can keep more of what they earn. #Michigan #LivingstonCounty

The governor’s proposed tax increase would raise taxes on Michiganders by $800 million at a time when many are already feeling the pressure. Michiganders don’t want to send more of their paycheck to Lansing. What we need is smarter spending. #Michigan #LivingstonCounty
