Some days in this job are particularly awe-inspiring — like today, when I joined my colleagues at Independence Hall in Philadelphia to celebrate that on this day 250 years ago our predecessors in the Continental Congress voted that our colonies were free and independent states. Two days later, they would adopt a declaration that would proclaim certain self evident truths. We still have a long way to go before our nation fully realizes the values and rights articulated in the Declaration of Independence — that all of us are created equal. I'm grateful for the opportunity to do my small part in that work each day that I serve Delaware in Congress.

The murder of yet another person at the hands of ICE agents is one more example of what happens when this administration is able to operate with zero oversight or accountability. I am thinking of the Biddeford community as they navigate this cruel and avoidable crime. This is how Congressional Republicans and the White House are spending $70 billion of your tax dollars — to prop up ICE’s deadly tactics in pursuit of an inhumane mass deportation regime. This administration’s actions are not above the law — and instead of passing billions more in funding, Congress should be holding the agents and their leadership accountable.

One year since the passage of President Trump’s so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill” Act pushed healthcare out of reach for millions of Americans, fewer people have health insurance, hospitals and clinics are shutting down, and there’s growing concern about access to care, especially in rural communities.

Recently I had the chance to tour the Delaware Skills Center and celebrate a more than $1M federal investment to purchase and renovate a new facility! This Center has been training the next generation of health care and construction trades professionals for decades — and this investment will help deepen their impact right here in Delaware.

Building affordable housing starts with ensuring reliable infrastructure. That is why I am proud to have secured $250,000 for this project in Laurel — which will expand and strengthen the sewer capacity to support a new housing structure.

Paid leave and childcare for all are the kinds of big and bold economic policies that Americans of all different ideological backgrounds are demanding.

Today's decision is a win for upholding the Constitution and the ideals that have long shaped our nation. It firmly rejects the president's attempt to chip away at citizenship through exception after exception. Birthright citizenship is a cornerstone of our nation’s civil liberties, and this decision further solidifies its validity. As Chief Justice Roberts wrote, citizenship is "the right to have rights" or to fully participate in our political community. And with this decision, the court affirmed something Delawareans and Americans across the country have long known: that immigrants strengthen our communities and are a critical part of our American story. While Donald Trump has sought to remake this country in his own image, today's ruling is a powerful rebuke of his narrow vision of American citizenship. It reaffirms that citizenship carries with it the dignity, equality, and belonging that every American deserves.

This morning, the Supreme Court just delivered a major rebuke to Donald Trump's favorite obsession: election denial. While he and this administration have been working to enact every possible method of disenfranchisement — from restricting mail-in voting to the so called SAVE America Act — the Supreme Court said plainly today: mail-in ballots that are postmarked before election day are lawful votes. This is a huge win for Delawareans and Americans everywhere who believe in protecting democratic participation and that every vote must be counted.

Donald Trump's extremist Supreme Court has cleared the way for his administration to strip legal protections from hundreds of thousands of people who registered, were vetted, trusted and followed the legal process, and, until now, lived and worked legally in this country. Haitian and Syrian TPS holders — many of whom fled violence, instability, and humanitarian crises — came to the United States seeking safety and the opportunity to build a better life. This decision allows the Department of Homeland Security to revoke their legal status and allow for the deportations of workers, caregivers, parents, small business owners, and seniors who have long been part of our communities. Here in Delaware, we've seen firsthand the impact of the Haitian community and their contributions to our health care system, our economy, and one of our state's largest industries — agriculture. They are our neighbors. They followed the rules, passed background checks, and built their lives here. They should not pay the price for an agenda rooted in cruelty and fear. Now it's on Congress to provide lasting protections for Haitian and Syrian TPS holders and build an immigration system that reflects our values — one rooted in dignity, safety, and decency.

When we set out to build this office, we made a commitment to ensure that every Delawarean who reached out for help would be met with urgency, compassion, and persistence — and our Constituent Advocacy team works each day to deliver on that promise. We are eager to continue providing high-quality constituent services across our state of neighbors.

I am honored to have been selected by Leader Jeffries to lead the Working Group on Caregiving alongside Rep. Morgan McGarvey. Together, we will convene our Democratic colleagues to strategize how we can empower caregivers and families by modernizing care infrastructure, lowering costs, and fighting for working families in Delaware and across the country. Nearly everyone will be a caregiver, need care, or both at some point in their lives. Yet, we’ve got a 1950s care infrastructure supporting a 2026 workforce. When families can’t access affordable childcare, elder care or paid leave, it impacts not only their well-being but also their ability to participate in the workforce and make ends meet. We have an opportunity to build an economy that fully supports workers, families, and caregivers — and I’m eager to help lead that effort.
