We’re back in DC for another crazy week. A lot of updates to share—but my heart is heavy for the families of Joan Sebastian Guerrero and Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. We must hold this Administration accountable.

New Mexico’s communities are strong and resilient and have fought for 80 years to get justice for our Downwinders after the first atomic bomb was detonated in the Tularosa Basin in 1945. As we know, art is an act of resistance and a powerful way to share the stories of our people. It was an honor to join Downwinders and experience the art and stories shared through the Nuclear Past, Present, and Future exhibition at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. We will always stand with our Downwinders in their fight for justice!

Trump promised jobs and factories would “come roaring back into our country.” Since then, over a MILLION people have left the job market. Inflation is sky-high. The Global economy is tanking. An illegal war in Iran has cost American and civilian lives across the region and billions in taxpayer dollars. Trump and the GOP cut vital healthcare, food, and education assistance. And Republicans have completely abandoned working families. It's time for a New Deal for America.

Another week in NM for the books! The most joyful part of this job is spending time with all of you across NM-01! Thank you to everyone who came out and shared your stories, hopes, and dreams for our future with our office. We take everything you share back to DC to help guide our work in our nation's capital! ❤️

What a joke. Donald Trump just BRAGGED about himself getting sued! I wonder why no other administration has been nearly as “good” at getting sued as his has been?? 🤔

Happy 100th birthday to Route 66! What was once a vital trade route across the United States is now an iconic part of our history in NM and across the U.S. In NM, Route 66 is more than just a road—it’s a place of gathering, of culture, and connection for our communities. Thank you to Dr. Romero and @abqmuseum for telling the stories of our home. ❤️

Every person deserves due process and to be treated with dignity and respect. This is why we opposed giving a blank check to ICE. This is not about law and order. This is about mass detention and deportation without due process. It is inhumane, un-American, and just wrong. And it is why we must continue to fight for an immigration system that is fair, humane, and worthy of our values.

Happy Friday! It’s been an amazing District Work Week back in New Mexico, connecting with our communities, our history, places and traditions that make us who we are. In the coming days we’re taking a deep dive to look at New Mexicos water challenges and gearing up for another crazy week in DC. Here’s what’s going down!

Like many of you we are angry and heartbroken at the news of the shooting Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. My heart is with his family and the community as they face this unimaginable loss.  No family should ever have to learn that a loved has been killed by a federal ICE agent. This must stop. We need a full and independent investigation into what happened and we must hold this inhumane and reckless Administration accountable. Full stop.

My heart and my prayers go out to Nolan Wells’ family as they navigate this tremendous loss. Nolan was the best of us: A hard worker, an outstanding athlete and teammate, and a loyal friend. I join the Wells family, community members, and leaders across the country in calling for a full, thorough, and transparent investigation to get answers into this tragedy.

As we’re reflecting on America’s 250th this week and what it means for New Mexico—we’re exploring NM’s cultural institutions and histories. Today, with the @NHCCNM in ABQ—one of our premier institutions celebrating Hispano and Chicano heritage in NM and across the continent. For many of our communities, their roots go back long before the U.S. existed. And, we are fiercely proud of the cultures and traditions that make us who we are!

From mental health support to addiction, too many of our neighbors are being forced to go without the care they deserve. But in New Mexico, we take care of each other. That’s why I’m fighting every day to bring federal resources home to strengthen our behavioral health care system!  I am proud to have secured millions in funding for Behavioral Health Clinics in partnership with First Nations in the International District, Healthcare for the Homeless Downtown, and with Sandoval County, to create a first-of-its-kind hub to serve rural and Tribal communities across the state. Together, we're building healthier, stronger communities across New Mexico! ❤️

In New Mexico we know water is life. But, we also know that our communities are facing a difficult time right now as our river is running dry. Here’s an update on everything that’s happening and what we’re doing to fight to protect New Mexico’s waters!💧

Art is an act of resistance! Today, we convened ABQ artists, scholars, historians and cultural institutions to reflect on what America’s 250th birthday means to our communities and what our office can do to help support the arts community in a time when art and culture are under attack. We also checked out the @abqmuseum’s newest exhibition for the Centennial of Route 66 on how Route 66 has shaped and been shaped by our communities all across New Mexico. An amazing and inspiring day. Thank you to everyone who joined! 🎨🖌️

We love the East Mountains! From the ancient Salt Flats near Willard, to the Pueblo and Mission at Quarai, to coffee with our communities in Mountainair, to learning about the culture and traditions of our Land Grants—NM is so full of history and culture, and I’m so proud to share little pieces of it with you every day. Tomorrow we’ll be back in ABQ and Valencia County, so if you see us, come say hi!

This is what it looks like when you have leaders and policies that care for our people. Go New Mexico! Healthcare is a human right!
