@dilanesper So you don't believe that Donald Trump is a wanna-be authoritarian and an enemy of democracy?

since this drew the usual responses-- yes, the actual point here is that when you conceptualize politics in the most dramatic way, you are helping raise the temperature! And that's true even if you totally believe in what you are saying!
Dilan Esper@dilanesper

I know this is squishy and both-sidesy, and I am not going to convince any partisans with this, but there's a way to talk passionately about politics without portraying the other side as utter demons who aim to destroy the Republic, and I try to model it in my own commentary.

Gotten a decent amount of DMs from people that bought Xbox consoles again recently after having previously sold them.

one of the worst changes to how we engage with media is the illusion we "control" what we watch. we don't. we're spoonfed small streaming libraries that limit our exposure to a wide range of cinema and tv, so fewer and fewer people expand their palette and truly connect with art.

@EvilKeaton @Srirachachau Also if you had a second TV it maybe had a VCR or a Super Nintendo. It's not like everyone was running cable or satellite all over the house.

@Srirachachau I think there’s also a point of not having your own TV. Like for a lot of my childhood, we had one TV, and if my dad wanted to watch Bridge on the River Kwai, that’s what we were watching.

@Replica_419 @csaddler5 lol yeah because people only drive north on 79/279 in the evening. Nobody at all goes the other way to get home. It’s totally empty. Not a single car. You’re horrible at this.

@Replica_419 @csaddler5 And the entire point of the post is about getting from a house in cranberry to the draft. Hope that helps. Moron.

@csaddler5 Yesterday at peak rush hour. From the center of Cranberry (the intersection of Rts 19 and 228) to the lot right to the Draft: 18 minutes.

I blame the parents. A part of childhood should be spent watching your dad's favorite violent movies & suffering through your mom's favorite songs in the car. That's how a living cultural memory is transmitted -- not via a perpetual bubble of age-appropriate content.

Film literacy among young people is at an all time low. My gen z students are shockingly unfamiliar with many key landmarks of modern cinema that were released in the 1990s

@MattZeitlin Also, audience scores are just confirmation bias. Critics see everything/more. Audiences see what they want to see.

i love this idea that critics are somehow "wrong" if they don't like a movie that audiences like

Hard to remember when it wasn’t always super serious doom posting and infighting and data mining and rumors. I totally get it, especially when it always drives engagement, but yeah, I think we all long for when it was about having fun and shared enjoyment of a videogame. We’ll get back there 🙏

Ranking the biggest Xbox "problems" on Asha Sharma's to-do list: Exclusives, Xbox Helix, Game Pass, and much more. What things do you think need fixing first? windowscentral.com/gaming/xbox/ra… ➡️ More. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma just crossed sixty days in the job, and has tackled some big issues facing the platform already. But there's potentially much harder stuff on the horizon.

@SteveChillGame The biggest hurdle for me to play regularly is that online play is pay-walled. I game socially and can do that for free on my PC.

I find this interesting: "Our new north star will be daily active players" For too long Monthly Active Users have been the measuring stick. This metric was broken by live service games, as monthly content drops inflated this total. It's how Halo 5 had better MAUs than Reach.

Not necessarily a new observation but the Mario movie and Michael feel like the same thing where’s it a movie made for people who don’t watch movies to see their favorite thing on the big screen and people who actually watch movies are not allowed to hate it

@SteveChillGame @vgmaster2001 I got married in the fall of 2012. Halo 4 was the first Halo game I played with my wife as a married couple. I have found memories of the experience. I wouldn't play it again if I didn't want to. Doesn't mean I think it holds up compared to the Bungie titles.
