One of the largest weekly car-free events in the world, Muévete en Bici (Move by Bike) happens each Sunday on the open streets of México City. For six hours, over 100,000 people enjoy 61 kilometers of walking and rolling along seven major corridors through the heart of downtown.

As the place where pedestrians and cyclists are at their most vulnerable, México City is experimenting with the protected intersection. Corner and mid-block islands compel turning motorists to decrease their speed, increase their diligence, and reduce the possibility of a crash.
