Let’s talk about all the reasons Detty Rave got it right and why @MrEazi may be building Africa’s biggest festival. 1. Set Design, Intentionality & Brand Alignment The intentionality of the festival was clear from the jump. The staging was minimal yet bold, anchored by a signature festival griot mask at the center. The pitch-black space cut through with red beam lights instantly set the tone, emphasizing the raver culture Detty Rave aimed to create. It was a masterclass in less is more, when done with purpose. Even the choice of Republic Bar as the official drink provider spoke volumes. Republic Bar embodies that underground, down-to-earth energy, where everyone, regardless of status, feels at home. The brand alignment felt seamless and authentic. 2. Experiential Design Detty Rave excelled at experience. From the wristbands fitted with red beam light, given to everyone regardless of ticket type , to the moments when they switched to green, the crowd became part of the production. Instead of phones in the air, we raised our wrists, turning the space pitch black with red dots scattered everywhere. Powerful. The unexpected release of inflatable balloons floating overhead, paired with confetti cannons and fireworks, added to the spectacle. The red beam lights on the trusses flickered on and off in sync with Mr Eazi’s “Zagadat” cues and DJ transitions, heightening crowd energy. Overall: 10/10 experiential execution. 3. Intimacy at Scale Maintaining intimacy at a festival of this magnitude—11,000 capacity—should be impossible. Yet Detty Rave somehow pulls it off. How? Mr Eazi stepping in as an MC at peak moments, VIP sections positioned at the sides rather than barricading the front, and a thin, linear stage design with sound-system-style crowd placement behind the DJ. There’s also a free-for-all stage setup (which may raise safety considerations in the future), but the result is clear: it doesn’t feel like a concert. It feels like Mr Eazi’s backyard party, and you’re genuinely glad to be invited. 4. The Lineup Impeccable. The lineup felt like a growing series of surprises that just kept getting better. As a J Hus superfan, that was my personal highlight. Then came @Davido, @plutomaniapopi , @Medikalbyk , @kingpromise and even if I missed a few, the curation was still deeply impressive. 5. VVIP Experience African festivals often fall short when it comes to VVIP experiences, but Detty Rave didn’t. While I wasn’t VVIP myself, multiple testimonials confirmed that guests were picked up directly from the parking lot and escorted to their cabanas. When people pay premium money, they expect ease, comfort, and zero stress. Detty Rave understood and delivered on that expectation. 6. The Star: Mr Eazi Mr Eazi was the heart of it all. His storytelling, sharing personal experiences and future visions, was engaging without being preachy. Walking the crowd through the hits he’s created over the past decade, then tying it into his $2 million pledge to build an event space in Ghana, felt inspiring, intentional, and forward-looking. Overall 8.5/10 with 1.5 being room for improvement which we all need.

I know i can’t afford to pay for Azul and Casamigos at Ace Tantra, Garage, Mad Club, and the rest so what do I do? I go straight to Republic Bar in Osu, grab their Ginger Shots and Kokroko, and I’m good for the night. I no fit do pass myself, i beg you.🙏🏿

I always find this discussion interesting. Personally, i think we are the cause of our own problems. I believe that there’s a place that fits everyone’s budget and more importantly, there’s a place that matches your paycheck. You wouldn’t need to spend more than GHC600–700 if you chose to go on a date at places like Lot30 Bistro, EJ Cuisine, Alavie Restaurant, and similar spots. But instead, some people choose venues like Kozo and others that are clearly outside their budget. Let me break the GHC600 down for clarity: •A plate of assorted fried rice costs GHC120. Buying two comes to GHC240 •Two cocktails at GHC100 each = GHC200 •Two bottles of water will cost you GHC5 each = GHC10 •Let’s say Uber or transportation falls between GHC100–150 Now, do the math. I think it’s still within a reasonable range. The point is, lifestyle choices should match income, but most of us try too hard to outdo ourselves and end up stressed. Before you attack me or disagree with me, this is solely my opinion, you can share yours too.

Two cocktails, a plate of food, and an Uber for two students who just want a night out costs GHS 1,000. That’s a lot.

Ghana's Republic Bar and Grill in Osu has been featured in CNN's editorial on the World's top 13 cities for nightlife, placing Accra at number 10. This ranking puts Ghana second only to Nigeria as the best cities in Africa for nightlife.
