POSTPONED The Liam Lynch Commemoration that was due to take place tomorrow has been postponed due to the ongoing fuel crisis. It will be rescheduled for April 26th, full details to follow.

Sinn Féin Poblachtach sends solidarity greeting to those partaking in the large protests against rising fuel costs across the Twenty-Six Counties. The protests are being led mainly by farmers, hauliers and others deeply affected by the rising costs of fuel. They have asked the Free State Government to speak with them, but have been ignored. Because of this they have decided to blockade major roads as well as Ireland’s only oil refinery in Cork. As this is written, the Free State has begun deploying its Public Order Unit to Whitegate Refinery in Cork and Dublin City Centre, which it no doubt intends to use to break up the protests. Irish republicans know all too well, the only way the establishment listens is by action, otherwise they will concede only as much as suits them. Rising costs are having a devastating impact on working people and families across Ireland, many of whom have already been under immense pressure from increased cost of living the past few years. Around half the price of petrol and diesel at the pump is made up of excise duty, carbon tax and VAT. The Free State charges one of the highest tax levels in the world on fuel, squeezing the working people while the state collects billions in tax revenue. There was a recent minor reduction in excise duty on petrol and diesel but, without a hard cap on prices, energy and fuel companies will simply raise their prices and profiteer from these tax reductions. The Irish people are seeing little to no benefit while large energy companies see record breaking profits. What is needed is a reduction in fuel taxes across the board, combined with a price cap to prevent profiteering, yet the Free State Government has shown no willingness to act. The current situation is no doubt stressful to people, especially to those travelling to hospital appointments, funerals or their holidays. We hope especially for their sake, it is resolved shortly. George Rice REPUBLICANS in Kerry and indeed throughout Ireland were deeply saddened to learn of the death on April 6 of George Rice, Clahane, Ballyard and formerly Oakview and Ballymullen, Tralee, Co. Kerry. George was born in Killarney, Co Kerry in 1932 before moving to Tralee where he lived all his life. He was the only son of John Joe Rice of Kenmare and Nora Ahern of Spa Road Tralee. His father John Joe Rice was O/C of Kerry No 2 Brigade, Irish Republican Army and was an active Volunteer down through his long career in the Republican Movement. In 1957 John Joe was elected as an abstentionist TD for South Kerry, along with Ruairí Ó Brádaigh, Eineacháin Ó hAnluain and John Joe McGirl for Sinn Féin. George’s aunt Rosalie Rice and his cousins sent the message about the 1916 Rising to American from Valentia cable station. His grandmother Ellen Ring and Abina Broderick (Gobnait Nic Bhruadair) were most active around the Kenmare area and were arrested and held on several occasions for Republican activities. After training to be a teacher George worked in Cork for a short period before returning to Kerry until his retirement. He chaired Easter Sunday commemorations and Charlie Kerins commemorations in Tralee since the 1960s and was a member of the Ballyseedy Memorial Committee. George appeared on TG4 and also on radio stations all over Ireland where his opinions on the true Republican positions were expressed. A life-long GAA supporter and an avid John Mitchell’s fan, George was a great believer in the Irish language, Irish music and culture. He was the Munster Honoree at the Annual CABHAIR Testimonial event in 2016. Sinn Féin Poblachtach extends deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Kathleen, his children John, Nóra and Tom, his grandchildren, family circle, relatives, neighbours and many friends. We condemn the heavy handed tactics of the RUC/PSNI, who in anticipation of our dignified commemoration closed off all roads in and out of the Kilwilkie Estate, carrying out licence checks and stopping and searching a large number of vehicles. This has not deterred us in the past, nor did it deter us today. We will continue to commemorate our patriot dead in whatever manner we see fit. The Drumboe Martyrs Commemoration Committee will hold its Annual Commemoration on Easter Sunday in Stranorlar, assembling at Mc Cool Terrace (the old Fire Station), Main Street,Stranorlar at 2.30pm. A wreath will be laid at the execution site at Drumboe Woods in remembrance of the four men who were executed there 101 years ago (Lieut. Dan Enright, Lieut. Timothy O’Sullivan, Comm. General Charles Daly and Brig. Comdt. Sean Larkin). Local ceremonies will take place over the Easter weekend at graveyards throughout Donegal, Tyrone and Derry,(Conwal Cemetery Letterkenny, Murlough Lifford, Clady Bridge, Donnyloop, Strabane and Melmount Cemeteries taking place on Easter Saturday). Sinn Féin Poblachtach (Republican Sinn Féin) Derry will also hold its Annual Commemoration in the City Cemetery at 12pm on Easter Sunday.

Kerry Easter Saturday Commemorations Members in Tralee and surrounding areas will hold the annual Easter Commemoration at Ráth Cemetery Easter Saturday at 7.30pm. Assemble at the front gate and continue to the Republican Plot, where a prominent speaker will deliver the Oration. Commemorations will take place across the country to mark the 110th anniversary of the Easter Rising and to remember our patriot dead. 2026 also marks the 100th anniversary of the introduction of the Easter Lily by Cumann na mBan to raise funds for Republican prisoners and their families.
