Charlie Kirk was more committed to peaceful, open dialogue with those who disagreed with him than anyone I know. God blessed him with immense gifts, and he used them boldly and without fear. He knew the risks he was taking, but he did it anyway because he loved his kids & felt a responsibility to the nation they would inhabit. I traveled the entire country with him last year, we spent 1x1 time together in Ohio two weeks ago, spoke to him again 2 days ago. He’s long warned of the rise of political violence & the growing culture of assassination, when few were willing to listen, with a clarity of vision unlike anyone I’ve known. Completely and utterly devastated.

Today has been quite a day. Harry was received at Clarence House by his father for a meeting for half an hour (more of which later). London has been ground to a halt by a display of union power which signals the contempt they actually have for EVERYONE as they have played upon the greed of the TFL drivers, who already earn more than many solicitors but want larger salaries than the basic £72,000 per annum that they receive for the tremendously difficult task of sitting behind an automated vehicle following a ten minute training session. So millions of people - ordinary people - are being massively inconvenienced for a whole week, frustrated in their right to go about their daily business without being hampered, and left out of pocket, while the unions show their contempt for our rights. But what is truly shocking above all is the assassination of Charlie Kirk. It is truly frightening that a young man can be murdered in broad daylight in front of thousands because someone is so afraid of what he had to say that he or she felt compelled to silence him permanently. I was sent a clip of the moment he wa shot. It makes for graphic and painful viewing, because the blood comes gushing out of the wound like a tap being turned on at full tilt. Already there is talk that it should be taken down. No, it should not. It should be compulsory viewing for everyone to see what happens when civilisation has broken down to the point where an articulate young man can suffer such a grim punishment simply for advancing ideas that are so frightening to terrorists that one of them could kill him in full view of the world. The Western world is at a huge impasse. We are where the Ancient Roman Republic was in 55BC. The lessons of history are clear. Unless we heed them, the freedoms which our ancestors fought for and gained over the previous seven hundred or so years are in danger of evaporating. My sympathies go not only to Mrs Charlie Kirk, their two young children, his family and friends, but also to all of us. Unless we get a grip, and begin to value the precepts which make for a civilised society, we will arrive at perdition sooner rather than later.
