Three disease outbreaks. Three countries. Three epidemics prevented. Last year El Salvador, Gabon and Thailand contained outbreaks of malaria, mpox and cholera before they spiraled into epidemics. In a new video, we hear from the health care workers involved about how they acted quickly to stop diseases from spreading using the 7-1-7 target for outbreak detection and response and saved lives. You can read the full stories in our new Epidemics That Didn’t Happen report, launched today at #WHA79: etdh.resolvetosavelives.org/2026/

In Bangladesh, a digital tool called the Simple app helped the country triple blood pressure control rates in just four years. A simple change is saving lives—and it’s replicable. Our president and CEO @DrTomFrieden writes about how strong primary care and user-centered digital tools can improve patient care and save lives. @tomfrieden/note/p-208244414?utm_source=notes-share-action&r=55z7vx" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">substack.com/@tomfrieden/no…

Accelerating action against the world’s deadliest health threats with the support of our Board of Directors 🚀 We are grateful to have active and engaged international experts from multiple sectors guiding our approach to build a healthier future. Last week, Board members gathered in Washington, DC to hear updates on our work from staff and offer strategic guidance to maximize our impact. Across conversations, the Board members centered our key values of technical rigor, justice and partnership, and provided meaningful expertise on how we can continue to close the gap between life-saving solutions and the people who need them. With their support, we’re working with partners to create real health progress and save millions of lives.

Primary healthcare is the foundation of a healthy life, yet millions of people still don’t get the care they need. Data from the World Health Organization suggests that expanding primary healthcare across low- and middle-income countries could save 60 million lives and increase life expectancy by 3.7 years. That’s why we’re working with partners to transform primary healthcare to deliver the right care, at the right time, for everyone. We focus on the conditions that shape everyday care: what gets measured, what gets funded and how frontline teams are supported. Our programs strengthen healthcare systems from the ground up—and they’re already having an impact. Learn more at resolvetosavelives.org/how-we-save-li…

We’re working with Nigeria’s government to reduce lead exposure and strengthen consumer safety. We recently hosted a capacity‑building workshop to train eighteen staff from @NafdacAgency across key directorates. The hands‑on sessions focused on the use of X-ray fluorescence (XRF) devices to screen cosmetics and other consumer goods for lead and other toxic heavy metals. Participants gained practical skills to operate, maintain and apply the device effectively. Earlier this year, we donated an XRF device to NAFDAC. With staff now trained, the agency is ready to deploy the device to screen cosmetics, food and other products—enhancing regulatory enforcement and health surveillance to protect communities from harmful lead exposure.

NAFDAC NIGERIA
NAFDAC NIGERIA@NafdacAgency·
The Read the Food Label Campaign is officially underway! Last week, NAFDAC, in collaboration with development partners, proudly flagged off this important national campaign to encourage Nigerians to develop the habit of reading and understanding food labels before purchasing or consuming packaged food products. Food labels are more than just information on a package; they are a valuable tool for making informed choices about the food we eat. By taking a moment to read the Nutrition Facts, ingredients, NAFDAC Registration Number, and Best Before or Expiry Date, consumers can make healthier and safer decisions for themselves and their families. This campaign marks the beginning of a sustained effort to promote nutrition literacy, empower consumers, and foster a culture of informed food choices across Nigeria. @CAPPAfrica @ResolveTSL @NhedNigeria @WHONigeria @IncubatorGHAI @UofANigeria Join the movement #ReadtheFoodLabel #SafeguardYourHealth
