@Athanasius_45 The well known English version is “there’s many a slip ‘twixt cup and lip”. I admit I had no idea of its ancient Greek source.

On the benefits (or perils) of drinking: Πολλὰ μεταξὺ πέλει κύλικος, καὶ χείλεος ἄκρου. Many things occur between a cup and the tip of a lip. Greek Anthology 10.32
