🏛️ A government takeover of the electric grid by the city will cost $9.3 billion or more in new debt. The interest payments alone would be over $400 million a year. 😨 📉 That’s a bad deal for San Diego.

WOW🤯🤯 A government takeover of San Diego’s electric grid would cost San Diegans $9.3 billion or more in debt. There isn’t even a plan on how the City would run the government owned electric utility!

This reckless initiative to take over our electric grid has no undo button🚫🔙. If it was to pass, there is no turning back regardless of what the final price tag will be 💵💵💵.

@SDUT Editorial Board take on failed attempt to gather enough signatures to automatically force a government takeover of our electric grid. “…doubts about setting up a municipal utility weren’t just likely. They were mandatory. Better safe than sorry.” bit.ly/3yvvjNf

Proponents of taking over San Diego's electric grid lack a clear operational plan. And the twist? The grid would be managed by 5 board members picked from a hat – experience not necessary! 🚫 responsibleenergysd.com

The $9.3 billion or more in new government debt to takeover the electric grid would be 100% debt and 100% funded through our electric bills. ⚡️ 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦Burdening working families with more costs for a proposal with no plan? That makes no sense!

San Diego is currently facing a $167 million deficit. 😟 A government takeover of the electric grid would add $400 million in annual interest payments alone. 💰 This means higher costs for all of us.💵 📈

🚨 No plan, no budget, no governance. Proponents of a government takeover of the electric grid have not presented any plan for how the City will operate the utility. Their proposed ballot initiative doesn't require a business plan until a year after formation! ❌📈

The billions in takeover costs for a government-run utility would be 100% debt and 100% funded through our electric bills. This means higher costs for all of us. 💰📈

🚧The City of San Diego has its hands full keeping up with basic infrastructure needs like fixing potholes and clearing storm drains 🌩️. This will only get worse if the City purchases a multi-billion-dollar electric grid and we’ll only end up paying more.

Not only will this scheme to seize the electric grid put taxpayers on the hook for $9.3 billion in new government debt. But it will also cost the city $3.9 billion or more in lost future revenue used for critical programs and services. shorturl.at/cdejH

Added all up, that’s $9.3 billion – nearly twice the City of San Diego’s annual budget! So how is this going to be funded? Entirely by new government debt.

Currently, the City of San Diego does not have any staff with the experience to run a complex electric utility and will need to start up this new government-run utility from scratch.
