Media Molecule, the studio behind LittleBigPlanet and Dreams, is reportedly working on a brand-new game that includes “open-world content.” The report comes from details in an online portfolio linked to a studio employee. While Media Molecule has not officially revealed the project, previous comments from the developers confirmed that their next title will be a completely new IP rather than another Dreams-style creation platform. The studio is known for games focused on creativity and player-made content. LittleBigPlanet let players build and share levels, while Dreams expanded this by allowing users to create full games, animations, music, and interactive experiences. Because of that history, many fans believe the new project could combine open-world gameplay with creative tools and online community features. Via MP1st.

California lawmakers are moving to exempt most Linux distributions from the state’s upcoming age-verification law after backlash from the open-source community. The original law would require operating systems to verify a user’s age during setup and share that information with apps through a built-in system API. Because the wording was broad, many developers believed it could apply to Linux distributions like Ubuntu and Fedora. That led to backlash from developers, who said the rules would be hard for volunteer-run open-source projects to follow. In response, lawmakers introduced changes narrowing the law’s scope and likely exempting most Linux distributions.

Meta employees are pushing back against a new tracking system that monitors mouse movements, clicks, typing, and screenshots on company laptops. Meta says the system is designed to help train AI tools by showing how employees use software and complete daily tasks. Many workers are concerned about privacy and feel the monitoring is too invasive. Some also worry that the data could be used to build AI systems that may eventually replace parts of their jobs.

A huge illegal streaming network operating across Europe has been shut down by authorities in Italy, France, and Germany. The service reportedly provided unauthorized access to platforms like Netflix, Disney+, DAZN, and Sky. What’s getting most attention is that Italy is now targeting subscribers as well as the people behind the service. >Servers and infrastructure linked to the operation were seized during coordinated raids. >Investigators say the network used offshore systems and rotating access methods to avoid detection. >First-time subscriber fines reportedly start at around €154. >Repeat violations could lead to penalties of up to €5,000. >Italy’s “Piracy Shield” system is being used to quickly block illegal streams. >Authorities are increasing cooperation with telecom providers and financial investigators.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has filed a new patent that could make waiting in games less boring. The idea is to show picture-in-picture content on the screen during loading times, matchmaking, or other delays. Instead of only showing a loading screen, players could watch useful content while they wait. This may include gameplay tips, story recaps, livestreams, tutorials, mini-games, or community videos. >Players could see extra content while games load or search for matches. >Content may include tips, videos, tutorials, and live streams. >The feature could help new players learn the game faster. >Some gamers are worried it could later be used for ads.

@Pirat_Nation Watch what these companies do, not what they say. They could fix any security issues without scraping users' personal data. But they'd rather pawn their job off on us.

South Carolina just passed a law requiring platforms to estimate your age every 100 hours of use, or any time they run their algorithms on you. 80% confidence minimum, $10k fine per wrong guess. The incentive is to collect more data about everyone, including kids. reclaimthenet.org/south-carolina…

Take-Two Interactive has confirmed plans to release six remakes, remasters, or platform expansions over the next few years as part of its roadmap through fiscal year 2029. Although the company has not announced specific games, fans and industry insiders are speculating about possible titles including -Grand Theft Auto IV -Red Dead Redemption 2 -Max Payne 3. Take-Two also mentioned “platform extensions,” which means some projects could be upgraded versions or ports for newer consoles and PC instead of full remakes. The company has used this strategy before with releases like Mafia: Definitive Edition and Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.

South Carolina passed a law that aims to protect kids from addictive social media use. The law requires large social media companies to estimate a user’s age using information they already collect, such as behavior, activity, account details, or device data. >If someone uses the app for more than 25 hours within six months, the company must be at least 80% confident the person is older than 15. >If the person reaches 50 hours of use, the company must be 90% confident. >If the company cannot reach that confidence level, it must assume the user is a child. The company must also recheck the age estimate every additional 100 hours of use and whenever it uses recommendation systems or analyzes user behavior. If the company wrongly treats a child as an adult, it can face fines up to $10,000 per violation. When a user is treated as a child, the platform must add protections such as parental permission tools, fewer addictive features like infinite scrolling or highly personalized feeds, stronger privacy settings, less data collection, more parental controls, and yearly safety reviews focused on risks to minors. The law applies to major online platforms that operate in South Carolina and are likely to be used by people under 18. Sc: reclaimthenet.org/south-carolina…

A Spanish court has refused to fine NordVPN in a case linked to LaLiga’s fight against illegal football streaming. Earlier this year, a court ordered VPN providers like NordVPN and ProtonVPN to block access to pirate football streams. LaLiga later asked the court to punish NordVPN for not following the order. However, the court decided not to issue fines after accepting that there was a real technical dispute about whether the blocking could actually be done by the VPN provider. The decision is important because it shows how difficult it can be to apply anti-piracy rules to VPN services. VPN companies say their systems are built for privacy and security, not for monitoring or blocking specific content. The bad thing is the ruling does not cancel the original order Sc: torrentfreak.com/spanish-court-…
