Nagano's new illustration of the L-Gaim Mark II features a wink to its Gothicmade successor, the Gatexion Mark II, in the form of the System Caligula symbol on the side of its head. Obviously this was nowhere present on the original design from the show.

So, after 2 or so years of research, I have almost completed the picture of the relationship between Mad Magazine and Japan. We start in 1968ish, when the Weekly Shōnen Jump published a few Mad articles in their magazine.
