We also continue to push for a vote on the stand-alone Save America’s Forgotten Equines (SAFE) Act in the House and Senate. It would place a lasting ban on horse slaughter in the United States and on the export of American horses for slaughter.

🧵 We’re disappointed to report that a bipartisan amendment led Reps. Buchanan (FL) and Schakowsky (IL) that would have placed horse slaughter ban language in the Farm Bill fell victim did not advance past the House Rules Committee. The House passed the Farm Bill this morning. ⬇️

Why is this important? Until Congress acts, the horse slaughter pipeline stretching from auction yards in the United States to foreign slaughterhouses will remain open for business.

Why now? The U.S. House of Representatives looks to begin consideration of the Farm Bill on the floor this week. The Farm Bill is a major law governing agriculture and food policy that’s typically renewed about every five years.
