Some people hold on to the only branch they are able to see. It's not that simple to say let go when you have nothing you can see to hold on too. That's why some people never make it because that branch you can't see is the one that will save you but in your mind since you can't see it it spells certain death. Change comes when death isn't the worst that could happen to you anymore then you leap.

...the way it used to be, not so much anymore sadly. People walk around with old wounds walls up, afraid to love fully with fear of getting hurt.
