🔴 I cannot believe that the regime's lobby has been able to tell the West - especially people inside the White House - the same lie for decades, and that they apparently keep falling for it, even though 47 years of history prove it isn't true. 1. Money for the regime does not benefit the Iranian people. Quite the opposite. The billions from the JCPOA were sold to the world using the exact same arguments. What happened? Thanks to Obama, tens of billions were invested in stronger domestic repression, the financing of terror proxies across the Middle East (Houthis, Hamas, Hezbollah), while the nuclear program continued anyway. It will be exactly the same this time - except that the Vance deal would provide the regime with roughly six times more money than Obama's JCPOA. 2. Democratization from within is not possible because the regime will never allow it. Time and again, it has permitted a limited space for tightly controlled NGOs and activism, or slightly relaxed hijab enforcement - always when it needed to sell the West the same lie: that reform from within is possible. The torture, rapes, and executions of opposition members never stopped. Iran has consistently had one of the highest execution rates in the world. The more than 100,000 child marriages every year never stopped. Half the population was living in poverty even before the war. The list goes on and on and it won't change. 3. Even before 2009, there were NGOs and activists. Hadi Ghaemi, the former head of NIAC, described this himself in a panel after the JCPOA. Once the 2009 protests began, activists were arrested, executed, and all NGOs were crushed. This pattern repeats itself over and over: a small illusion of openness followed by brutal repression and mass killings whenever people demand real change. See the video in the linked thread. What value is "reform" if it can be erased overnight? Only the end of the Islamic Republic will change that. The regime's lobby is advising Vance just as it advised Obama. Selling the same lies, ignoring the same truths, and spreading the same propaganda. And they seem to be getting away with it again.
