Jesus enters Jerusalem in humility, welcomed with palms and praise. Yet the same voices will soon turn away. Today we walk with Him, choosing not passing enthusiasm, but faithful love that remains in trial, suffering, and the quiet path of the cross.

Neurodivergent intuition is unhinged. We can't remember where we put our keys but we can feel a bad vibe through a text message.

Those days when birthdays came with long messages and people would wait up till 12 just to be the first to tell you happy birthday.

Overheard my 10y/o daughter record her voicemail greeting: “Hi, you’ve reached my voicemail. When you hear the beep, hang up and send me a text.” This generation gets it.

Cardinal Pizzaballa on Palm Sunday: “In this afternoon of Palm Sunday we gather without a procession, without palms waving through the streets. This absence is not merely a matter of formalities. It is the war that has interrupted our festive journey, making even the simple joy of following our King difficult.” “Today Jesus weeps once more over Jerusalem. He weeps over this city, which remains a sign of both hope and sorrow, of grace and suffering. He weeps over this Holy Land, still unable to recognize the gift of peace. He weeps for all the victims of a war that seems without end: for divided families, for shattered hopes. But the tears of Jesus are never fruitless. They open our eyes, challenge us, and reveal the truth.”

Palm Sunday should awaken both Christian Nationalists and Progressive Christians. Jesus didn’t come for earthly power or to topple an earthly oppressor. He came as the King whose throne is not of this world, whose victory was won through the cross, and whose reign never ends.

Palm Sunday hits different today. With processions and services canceled in Jerusalem, Jesus entering the city on a donkey, not a warhorse, feels more powerful than ever. It brings to mind Mary’s song at the beginning of His life: God scatters the proud, brings down rulers from their thrones, and lifts up the humble. On a day like this, I am reminded that the true King stands against the madness of men and wins by laying down his own life for us all. Lord, help us see our world through the lens of Jesus.

We want the warhorse. Jesus rides a donkey. We want the eagle. The Holy Spirit descends as a dove. We want to take up swords. Jesus takes up a cross. We want the roaring lion. God comes as a slaughtered lamb. We keep trying to arm God. God keeps trying to disarm us.

When you worship power, empathy, compassion, and mercy will begin to look like sins. They will begin to look like a compromise. They will look like weaknesses. Love will begin to look like a threat.

I just keep asking myself, if we are claiming to be Christian, then why on earth would we want to ascribe to a definition of politics, Christianity, or masculinity where Jesus wouldn't even measure up as a "real man" or a "true leader?"

How he would be treated for preaching nonviolence and even being willing to die for his enemies out of love for them rather than kill them. (Luke 23:34) In our world today, I think Jesus would be treated much the same way he was treated during his earthly ministry.

Today is Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week, when Christians remember Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. Crowds welcomed Jesus with palm branches and shouts of praise, expecting a king who would bring victory and power. Yet the week that follows reveals a very different kind of kingship. Palm Sunday holds together joy and sorrow, celebration and suffering as we journey towards Christ's passion, death and resurrection Bible reading: Matthew 21:9 ‘Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!’ Prayer Holy God, as we welcome Jesus into Jerusalem, help us to see clearly the path he chooses. Give us grace to follow Christ not only in moments of praise but also in times of cost and challenge. Strengthen us to walk with him through this holy week, trusting in your love even when the way is hard. Amen. Artwork: St Elie Greek orthodox church, Rabieh, Lebanon.
