Collecting signatures is one of the tasks that most Rhode Island politicians dread. As a candidate, I grew to enjoy the process as I got to meet the voters I hoped would help me get into office. This year, I didn’t run for office, but I got signatures for campaigns in my hometown and Republican statewide candidates. Like Representative Hopkins, I walked in the scorching heat and even in the rain that followed. In the end, the count was 801 signatures in five days. Every signature was personally collected. I never let my clipboard out of my sight for one minute. I signed the sheets in front of the town’s clerk and had them notarized. The utter arrogance of a multi-term elected official admitting that she routinely left sheets on her porch to bypass the process is disgusting. I won’t draw any conclusions... but let me say this. I have been through three election cycles and I have watched Democrats, Republicans, and the many volunteers on both sides struggle to get those signatures. This year, my husband and I were knocking doors in 105° heat and then we were doing it again in the pouring rain. I not only got my own signatures, I helped many other people. I’ll leave it there. I signed every single request that was made of me because I believe in ballot access. You don’t have to agree with a candidate to agree that they have a right to try. I saw people working parades, Fourth of July events, giving up their own family time...for no pay or reward… just because they believe in the process. I have had people embrace me at doors, people refuse to answer the door, people who even swore at me at the door... and my experience is absolutely not unique. It's a big, difficult, and stressful task. You need to armor up to do it because it’s not easy. Frankly. Getting the signatures is a real barrier to getting on the ballot, it is an earned badge, it shows you're serious about your commitment to running for office. And we willingly do it. And I’ll conclude by saying to anybody who skirts this system; I won’t use words stronger than this: It is abjectly unfair and it is wholly deceitful. Shame on that. I sincerely commend and thank everyone who stepped up over the last two weeks.

Socialists have taken over the Democrat party. From coast to coast, Democrat Socialists are winning nominations in key congressional seats, and if they win, they will bring nothing but America LAST policies to Washington. We must stop them.

I stood at Rhode Island’s empty booth during America’s 250th anniversary celebration. Let that sink in. At a historic national event where states from across the country are proudly showing their history, their people, their tourism, their businesses, and their pride, Rhode Island did not show up. We should be ashamed. This is not about politics. This is about Rhode Island. The Ocean State has one of the richest histories in America. We should be front and center during the 250th anniversary of this nation, reminding people who we are and why Rhode Island matters. Instead, our booth is empty. I spoke with NewsNation and with Tara Granahan about how our state leaders failed to represent us on a national stage. Rhode Islanders deserve leaders who show up. Rhode Island deserves better.

Rhode Island is the smallest state in New England, yet it spends about $15.2 billion a year…roughly $13,800 per resident. Compare that to New Hampshire (~$5,500 per resident) and Maine (~$8,200 per resident on a general fund basis), both of which manage far larger road networks, more public lands, and larger geographic areas. RI also employs nearly as many state workers as New Hampshire despite serving fewer residents and maintaining a fraction of the territory.
